Has Hardwick had the worst start to a coaching career?

With this rubbish list and the fact it still requires so much work, DH shouldn't be under pressure for results for at least the first 2 years (2010, 2011). Will be a good test for the club that has said it won't be pressured by the media because next year and the the year after (especially with the new 5 year plan that outlines finals by 2012) they will be coming hard and fast for blood. We're still very much in the honeymoon period for outsider expectations and fans alike. I hope everyone at this club is finally on the same page at all levels (coaches, board, etc).

god i feel sorry for dimma, left with a shocking list thanks to the solarium spindoctor. give him time he deserves time unlike spud and wallet , they atleast had a list to work with until they butchered the draft picks, this poor guy has the bottom of the barrel.

he has taken on the toughest job in the AFL.

Gee, i am not a patient man but the Dimma love here is starting to wear thin. Do we have the time to devote two years of love to these pathetic efforts from an AFL list in the guise of a rebuilding mode.

Talk young kids talk, dons, roos, dees, eagles, none are as bad as us.

At the moment we r truly pathetic.

How is it Hardwick's fault after looking at our list? Our list is young and the older players are not champions.

you just got to wonder what these beltings are doing to the kids confidence - can't be a positive - and don't see any short term answers

is obviously a worry though

Had a chat today to a guy who works at the swans he said roosy always said first two games dictate how well the club responds to ur plan and if ur older guys r use to losing after a while ur younger guys c it as the norm and u then have no chance of fixing it a coach must win early

Hardwick is starting from the lowest possible base you can - a team with the worst record in the last 25+ years, the youngest and least experienced, a problematic culture - a team at our lowest. The best leaders take face on such adversity and relish the opportunity to turn it round. Hardwick will not be bothered on his record in the first 6 rounds - nor would the most seasoned supporters. With that said there are positives with many of our young players, and in Hardwick himself.

Hardwick knows he is bringing this club from a long way back....he is only 6 weeks in to what is undoubtedly the hardest job in footy at the moment. I dont believe we will see any true results till the end of next year. Hardwick still needs to get rid of the garbage lurking at the club - King, mcMahon, Hislop etc.... then its all about devloping the kids. We are in for a very long 3-5yrs...however this was inevitable if we were to ever improve.

If thats the case we *smile*.

I can't see how this applies to us. We barely have any old guys left and one of them Cousins certainly doesn't have a loser mentality - far be it from that. Simmonds is the other older and at least he has played in a Grand Final. With that said it would take many more than two games to adapt to a new game plan.

Hes point was ian if u tell a kid hes a loser hel become one and if u tell a kid hes a winner he may not get there but he will try

he said u need to recruit players from a winning culture even at under 18s take the premiship player over the talented kid from the wodden spooners

a game of footy is not won on ability but on who has the biggest brain

Well North are stuffed then under Scott as they lost their first 2.

Hawks lost the first three under Clarko so they should have completely failed.

Don't expect the Dockers to do much more this year then under Harvey as they lost his first 3.

And what the hell happened to us under Wallace after we were 7 and 4 mid way through 2005?

Two games was just a figure hes point was the earlier u win the greater chance of succsess

scott is stuffed at the roos but has a greater chance of sucsess with the younger boys

dockers have recruited more sucsseful player at a junior level

and snake may of played in a gf but did they win

and clarkson is a dud coach always has been he still brought in dew etc

the swan guy said he dosnt no if it applies to richmond its just roosys theroy

Think about this its your attitude not your aptitude that determins your altitude footy is a game of approch and how you treat each other skills are irrelivent if you want to win

does this mean if our kids had a better attitude, their skinny bodies would have been able to better wear the tackles and bumps from the hardened Geelong mid-field?

What scooty is saying has been around for decades (I don;t say that with any disrepect)

Was fortunate enough to be coached by Alan Jeans a couple of times and that was part of his essence back then, was that you can have all skill in the world, but unless you have the mental will, it will count for little in this game, compared to the committed group of individuals willing to follow a well thoughtout gameplan.

He also said every AFL team is near equal (though at the moment you'd question a comparision of say Geelong and Richmond as an anomoly), the difference is the 5% of mental attitude on the day.

We won a couple of flags under his GrandFinal addresses.
