Clarkson never won it. Generally goes to the coach of the most surprising improver, e.g.

2011 Worsfold 16th to 4th
2012 Longmire 7th to 3rd
2013 Hinkley 14th to 7th
2014 Longmire 4th to 1st
2015 Beveridge 14th to 6th
2016 Beveridge 7th
2017 Hardwick 13th to 3rd
2018 Buckley 13th to 3rd
2019 Fagan 15th to 2nd
2020 Hinkley (?) 10th to 1st

There's a reason the AA coach is the premiership coach.

He is definitely under rated
Have we ever heard rumours of rival clubs trying to poach him? No
Is it because others don’t rate him and because they think he is competely ungettable?
I think the latter

So in the first final he becomes the longest serving coach of the great RFC. Unbelievable achievement. Especially when you consider where we were at when he took over. Congratulations Dimma:clap2

But have a look at Hafey’s record. 4 flags at over 70% win rate. And we hadn’t made finals for over 20 years when he took over. And we sacked himo_O

I was just going to comment on Hafey's winning percentage - stunning over so many games. Plus 4 flags. Always loved Hafey as a coach and thought he was under-rated. Everyone used to rave about Barrassi as a coach, which was justified. Hafey was easily his equal. Look what he did with Collingwood in 1977 - wooden spooner to grand final draw and then loss.

Hafey left because the Board would not give him their full backing. Might as well have been sacked. Hafey had won us 4 flags, and that winning percentage, wow. I will always consider that Hafey was effectively sacked. I still remember when it happened and, notwithstanding the 1980 flag, the downfall clearly started when we got rid of Hafey. I just could not believe we didn't sign him up for another 5 years, still pisses me off to this day. Worst decision the club ever made, and I do mean ever.

There’s been rumours about Essendon trying to poach him, but I don’t think they’ve ever been serious.
 
Dimma deserves all the accolades he will get for taking us from a rabble to reigning premiers and potentially much more during his coaching career to date. To reach Hafey's coaching record is so special and I expect Dimma to continue to give us great success for seasons to come

Same as being given the choice - walk or be sacked.
It was disgraceful behaviour.

I can remember Lou and Jack interviewing Tommy on WOS during one finals series, and Tommy was talking about team selection for the next game. He said something like "we'll take a look at the opposition for next week", meaning look at the match ups. Lou and Jack were amazed. They just assumed Richmond would run out with their best 22. It obviously hadn't occurred to them to choose players that will beat or negate the oppo's strengths.

Tom Hafey was a beauty.
