Goodbye Mabior Chol

When we say 'Play the kids' we mean that we should play people who aren't ready. Mabs got a game for a taste. It looks like he'll get another year. And he has an off-season to face some facts. That will mean working harder on and off the field.

Sometimes a youngster will respond to the bright lights, leon. Sometimes not. I think Chol will take a lot of development. But I hope we keep him.
Same line of thinking. Happy for Mabs to get a run around in the ones for a look at how much difference there is between magoos n seniors.

Probably the worst possible game to give a youngster a Christmas present game though, Sydaknee rampant n wanting a tune up before the finals and our mob already in mad monday mode.

He's a rookie, what were you expecting? It's good for him to get a taste. I'm sure we'll re-rookie him, and develop him some more. Did all our players except Soldo get a taste this year?

Think Soldo's the only one who missed out.
Not sure any club has done that too often, virtually play every player on the team list during a season.
Massive overhaul n upheaval to our side this year, some of it forced through injury n form issues early in the year. Some of it through pushing games into our future kids n some of it through just hoping to find someone who can contribute something.

Gifting games is not the way to go IMHO.

Got to make the kids earn it and Mabs is obviously a long way off yet!

Maybe, Jack, but Chol and Seymour are miles off it. When I saw both named I got straight onto the Swans at the slaughterline and had it covered by half time.

It's one thing to play Castagna and co as your kids but Chol and Seymour selections reeked of tanking to get pick 5. The thing is, Carlton were doing the same.

That was a good move, TBH. ;D

How the *smile* did Esserdon prove to be the worst tankers of 2016? They have to lift! (Dimmer's presser of last week was no help. Carlton out-tanked us.)

Just on George, he's been lost for a while but he was good today (in weak company). I think he took a while to bounce back from senior footy.

Mabs has had a taste. Let's see.

Butler missed, TM. BTW he kicked three today. :thumbsup

Been playing back all season in the VFL yet is brought in as a forward. Wtf.

Played a mix, Rancey. Often rotating with Seymour.

Yeah sorry Jack, should have said majority. He was thrown to the wolves today with the quality of ball he was given. Lets hope it doesnt have lasting damage on him.

Better than being under an avalanche of leather, Rancey.

Playing the kids. Is it a PR exercise?

Miles off AFL standard yet he just looks like he will be a player one day. Better still, he's got some mongrel in him. Good on him for flying the flag when Houli got speared

Butler

Allir's a couple of years older but his progress during the season has been plainly visible. Won't matter if Chol has twice as much talent, won't make it without good coaching. How is it that Elton can be in the system for five years and look absolutely clueless about using his body in a contest?

We gave him a 2 year extension last year too, staggering!

Yer, I know all that and I certainly want to keep and develop players like Chol and CMoore. But I didn't expect him to avoid the contest like I saw at times; I admit I couldn't keep watching the horror-show for the 2nd half.
When you can only find the ball twice in a game, that's seriously successful avoidance! Possibly it was a part of our hugely successful offensive strategy of going to Jack with every attack, whether he is in the vicinity, anywhere near in position or not. With this ingenious and highly original game-plan, other TFs are just decoys. This explains the highly successful careers of all of our young talls. It works wonderfully well and always fools the opposition.

Not sure what some of you were expecting from the kid. He's a first year rookie playing his debut game against the best team in the comp. Would have been seriously nervous. No he wasn't ready and probably shouldn't have been selected, but the couple of times he did get it I thought he did ok considering. Very nearly kicked a great running goal with his first touch, showed a bit of speed. Was great to see him get stuck into the swans when Naismith dumped Houli.

Plenty of work to do still, build up the body, and a couple more seasons in the system with some senior games here and there and we'll see what we've got

He played better in the NAB cup. He did have 2 opportunities With the ball in hand and the umpire played a free kick to the Swans. Both times he was having a shot on goal.

It was probably about what I expected. Shocking game to make the debut in. He went in with a bunch of blokes who simply didn't care. He's got plenty of learning and developing to do, but I think he will make it.
