Yeh, he handles pressure well. Just takes an eternity to play. Selfish. He’d be ok. He’s at least interesting for being slow and obnoxious plus he can play.
He fired up big time at the President’s Cup in Melbourne. He’s a gutsy performer.

Apparently he’s a real smart arse off the course. According to Chamblee at least.Yeh, he handles pressure well. Just takes an eternity to play. Selfish.
I felt the sweet little Asian lady rules official just wasn't au fait with the rules or too intimidated by the Thai pro and his caddy. It looked really unacceptable to me. But for someone who knows the rules better than me, surely you're not allowed to really shift, shove and trample vegetation out of the way to locate and play the ball like both the player and his caddy, who wielded his bag like a whipper-snipper in places? What the hell was going on there ? Ridiculously trying to find a way to play a clearly unplayable ball, a rules official who looked less than confident, and then an eternity to play the shot which, beyond what the Thai player was trying to do, was also unfair to Smith and Campbell.
Farcical.
Yes Smith remains quite dodgy and unreliable off the tee. If his putting is not working A1, which it wasn't yesterday nor lately on final LIV events, his long game is very fallible. I'm quite surprised that a super-wealthy pro with all the access to best quality gear, coaching/training and data analysis, anything he needs, still cannot correct his faults with the driver especially.Yep, the final group are all square on 18. Smith has been all over the shop off the tee on the back nine, looks like he mightn't been able to aim for the pin with his 2nd shot.
I hope Campbell wins.
Correct on both fronts Leo Sayer.I felt the sweet little Asian lady rules official just wasn't au fait with the rules or too intimidated by the Thai pro and his caddy. Also, 2nd question. I couldn't understand why he wouldn't just use his common-sense and return the tee to play another drive (that would have been his 3rd, right?). It took him two lame hits to get out as it was, and pretty lucky to do so. Amazed he got away with only a double bogey.
Thought he might have been DQd on the PGA/DP tours? It was really a pain for Smithy and Campbell.
He’s had that unreliability off the tee his whole career. Mostly it goes left. Hooky. He has this flippy little loop at the top of what’s a long-ish and loose swing. Like all of us, when his timing is on, he gets around it. When not, his short game often gets him through. But not always.Yes Smith remains quite dodgy and unreliable off the tee. Surely he can figure out how to correct his defects?
Overall, disappointing to see he could not bury this opposition on the weekend. On that evidence, really doubt that LIV has challenged him to extend his abilities ... just his bank balance.
So true, but even I kind of worked out what I do wrong with my swing if I start to over-fade or pull it. Primarily about timing my hands coming through with my body-turn; not too early with the hands and either opening or closing the face. He’s had that unreliability off the tee his whole career. Golf club technology. It makes a huge difference.
I just upgraded from a Taylormade M1 to a Titliest TSR2. I reckon I got the M1 about 6 years ago. Didn't get fitted properly. Thought the adjustable weight would be all I needed. Just hit a few different drivers at House of Golf at Flinders St after work one day when they had a sale. I think i paid about $600 for it. Was happy with it until recently. Reading a bit about how far the tech has come with driver faces.
Thought it was about time for a new driver. Got fitted at Albert Park fitting hub. Matt Tudor. Nice guy, has all the different driver/shaft combos you could want as well as the Trackman setup. Was keen on the Callaway Paradym. Hit with most of the major brands as well as the M1. The TSR2 was clearly the best on the day for me. Tighter dispersion and slightly better ball speed. (159mph with driver which is only about 20-30 mph behind the pros!!) No wonder they hit it 30m plus past me.
Got it this week, played at Rosebud Friday. Didn't hit one duck hook or massive slice. First time in a long time that has happened. Don't reckon it was swinging different, just the technology in the face that reduces the dispersion. Hits that I thought were shockers ended up just in rough. Felt like cheating. Makes me keen to play more, can't wait to get back the the Nash.
Anyone else upgraded recently and happy with the change.
Footnote - I take it all back if I go out there next week and have 24 points.
20m is pretty good!I upgraded a couple of months ago to a set of Tour Edge C723's with a low launch shaft. I work in the industry so get a pretty good deal on this brand and didn't try anything else out, although I've hit my mates TSR1 and liked it.
I reckon I'm hitting the driver about 20m further than my old set. Had a ripper last month and came in 5 shots. The last week not so crash hot but I'm pretty happy with the clubs overall. It's also good to get new wedges so the milled face is still grippy and helps spin the ball on the greens.
20m is pretty good!
Never heard of the TE C723 - I see it gets some pretty good darn reviews online.
Handicap now?I should add I've had some lessons in the last 6 months which might have helped too. So might not be entirely the club.
Love the Titliest drivers. Classic shape and look. Always hit Mizuno irons, the MP-33 wete a long time fav.Still use the old Titleist CB 716 forged irons and 917 woods. I’ve only upgraded putters and wedges the last 12 months.
2 x Scotty Cameron’s Select Series - the Newport 2 and Newport 2.5 and 2 x Odyssey Toulon Design putters - the Las Vegas 4.5 and the Daytona Beach models.
Set of 3 Titleist Vokey SM9 wedges. 48, 52 and 60 degrees. All low bounce.

I have a bunch of putters over the years. Most serious and regular golfers do I expect. But I only use 1-2 at any time over a decent period eg 2 years.Love the Titliest drivers. Classic shape and look. Always hit Mizuno irons, the MP-33 wete a long time fav.
Are you a decent putter? In my experience guys with lots of putters are generally nad putters. You might just be a putter fan?
Similar story. Except Im still out at 10!Down from 10 to 5. But I was playing off 5 about 2 years ago and hit a massive form slump. It was a very gradual decline and a rapid recent improvement. Certainly can't put it all down to the clubs but I think getting new clubs gives a boost in confidence in general. Half of golf is feeling confident when your looking down at the ball and the club.
yeh, my experience is more with club golfers. And the ones changing putters all the time are usually poor ones looking for the anser (poor pun)I have a bunch of putters over the years. Most serious and regular golfers do I expect. But I only use 1-2 at any time over a decent period eg 2 years.
Sometimes I’ll be putting my arse off and change putters because I just have a “feel” to eg if I think the greens are getting at their quickest, I might switch to one that’s better suited for that condition. Or, If I’m in a flow mood I’ll use the Cameron’s. If I’m in more of a square to square mood I’ll use the face balanced Toulon’s.
Brad Faxon, one of the games best putters and putting coach to Tour players eg Rory has hundreds of putters. Best putter I’ve ever played with, he has about 25 and often pulls one of the older ones out when he feels like it. Contrary to popular opinion, Tiger Woods has dozens of them.
And finally, you should consider upgrading your putter as you do with other clubs. The difference between putters of a few years ago and now is equally as sizeable as it is with drivers and irons I reckon, personally. If I compare my older Cameron’s with my 2 latest, there is basically no comparison. The new ones are infinitely better.
Remember: you hit more shots with your putter than any other club in the bag.
What does “do well” mean ? Win, top 5, top 10, top 20?Gold followers of PRE. Am in a gold comp with some mates worth a few $$$ similar to what Drofder runs here. Who are a couple of decent players (ideally not at the head of the market) who can do well at the Aus PGA starting tomorrow. Cheers!
