Golf

I don't care how well the broadcaster is covering LIV, until they get some decent golfers I won't be watching it.
Not sure about this 54 hole, shotgun, scoreboard, team thing either. Might take a while to get used to.

Sorta reminds me of WS cricket in some respects. Interesting but strange.

It’s mad
Only 48 players
Only playing 3 rounds
The winner shoots 7 under and collects over $6.5 million
The basically unknown Aussie battler (Travis Smyth) wins over of million
A third of the field were 10 shots OVER par or worse
A couple of players shot 23 OVER and 24 OVER respectively

It's an insult, I haven't and won't be watching it.
It brings rewarding mediocrity to a new level.

It was played on a bloody difficult tight course though, scoring was pretty tough.

They've already got DeChambeau, Reed, Bubba, Wolfe, Perez, Fowler and Kokrak coming in next event, if the DP tour allows player to keep a card it won't be long before the field rivals run of the mill PGA tour events for field quality.

In other news Justin Rose shoots 60 at the RBC with 3 bogeys!

Entertaining Canadian Open. Heh heh heh….and Mr Burnside reckons Rory’s swing is no good.

End the farce Burnside !!

Jeez the Golf channel boys carving up Mickleson. All of a sudden they bring up all sorts of things from his past to bag him. Corrupting the Ryder Cup, gambling etc etc. Calling him insincere and disingenuous. A bit different to the commentasry around his PGA win.

Acting like the PGA tour is some sort of benevolent institution and Phil owes the PGA something.

How many people would give up the opportunity of $200M like they think Phil should?

How many people are boycotting Disney because the Saudi sovereign fund has $500M invested in it?

What other investments have they made we should be boycotting?

This 9/11 guilt *smile* is just that, basically saying Phil should feel guilty for supporting the Saudis who funded the hi-jackers.

Who supplies the Saudi's with its weapons?

The US funded Bin Laden ffs.

And they talk about integrity.......

l am thinking that we will see Bryson and his mate Kyle in the same team in the LIV events in the not too distant future.

Yeah. It’s way over the top. And if you saw the interview Jim Nantz did with Jay Monahan it’s even MORE over the top. Can’t stand Monahan. Guy can’t even look straight at anyone he’s such a slink.

The PGA Tour and all its media partners eg CBS, NBC-Golf Channel etc are going about this all wrong. They’re all absolutely beside themselves that anybody would dare challenge their long time cushy existence. The fact it’s foreigners doing it makes them even more aggrieved.

Maybe someone should remind Nantz, Monahan, Chamblee and co that every time they start up their fancy SUV’s each morning that there’s a reasonable chance it’s being powered by Saudi oil bought in the billions by US gas companies.

Otherwise, shut up and stop threatening and bitching about LIV and tell us how you’re going to make your own product better to compete with them.

And people reckon the AFL media are a bunch of sycophants. Nantz made Gerard Whateley look like Kerry O'Brien.

I like a lot about the PGA Tour. But the PGA Tour has had years…decades…. to prepare for this sort of business challenge. Its as obvious as the nose on your face that someone, somewhere, was going to try and create a F1 style world golf tour. And what has the myopic PGA Tour done under Jay Monahan and Tim Finchem before him ? Stuff all. Instead of trying to grow the game and their product by expanding into other regions around the world and trying to partner with other tours, they’ve sat on their hands watching the grass grow in their cushy back yard.

Monahan is such a dud. It won’t be long until he’s exposed and people start asking “Yeah….but what are you going to do Jay…and in fact….what HAVEN’T you been doing these last few years ?” The LIV threat started over 2 years ago. And what has Monahan done ? Nothing. Just made a bunch of threats and far flung associations and character assassinations that get people’s backs up even more. He’s driving a wedge between the PGA Tour and the players.

I can actually see what that spud is going to do. He’s gonna start issuing retainers to PGA Tour players to keep them. He’ll start doling out cash to guys like Rory, Thomas, Rahm, Morikawa etc which will have the potential to backfire on him when other players getting nothing, or much less, start to complain.

As each day goes by, I reckon the chances of the DP Tour destroying the PGA gets stronger. I didn't realise until the other day that Monaghan actually sits on the DP board which I find bizarre, so surely he is lobbying them to come out strongly on LIV and they are not prepared to.

If the DP tour team up with LIV and start a genuine World Tour with huge purses then it won't be long until the PGA tour is just Rory and JT playing matchplay.

I have never been big fan of Brooks koepka, after watching his press conference l am becoming a fan.
He kept being questioned about LIV and ended up answering with why aren't we talking about the U.S Open?
Good luck this week Brooks.

I've never been able to work out why the DP Tour (European Tour previously) has never been able to get a hard core, big cash World Tour off the ground despite their greater attempts or forays to take the game to the broader world e.g. Asia etc.

Obviously money has been a factor, restricted playing rights of PGA Tour players and what not, but the fact Monahan is on their Board probably explains it as much as anything.

Yeh, Phil is a selfish *smile* for looking after his own interests but what about these guys completely in the pocket of the PGA?

And whilst I like Rory I reckon Norman could point out a few records he has that Rory won't get near - Rory only has to get the No.1 mantle for another 5 odd years to catch that one and win another 40 odd tournaments worldwide to equal his overall record.

Reckon Rory is becoming more dislikable by the day, coming across like a sanctimonious prick of late.

Just saw a Golf Digest video of Phil getting a huge reception from the crowds at the US Open. Reckon the PGA tour has vastly overestimated how much the golf demographic care about the issues with the Saudis.

Given the US Open starts tomorrow night I am happy to run the comp again. I would need the ratings list IP again Red.

I was thinking of a tweak (a bit like the LIV tour) where we increase the salary cap to 400, you pick 8 golfers but only the best 6 scores count. Might get more through the cut with at least 6 contenders?

Thoughts?

Or did you want to take back the reigns Mr Ford?

That was real poor by Rory the other day saying he was motivated to win one more PGA Tour than "that other guy". He's also shot his mouth off on a few other occasions the last few months as well. Becoming annoying.

Rory's played many times in countries with huge human rights issues and accepted large appearance fees for doing so. And as for playing the "easy way out" card when criticising players for signing up with LIV cast your mind back to when he dumped Caroline Wozniacki. After years of going out with her he dumped her by phone. Seems he knows a thing or two about taking the easy way out himself.

I'm not a big golf guy so please tell me to stay in my lane, but there's a difference in filling up your car with gas some of which has come from Saudi oilfields and actively setting up a business with the Saudis for the express purpose of sportswashing the Saudi regime. Because that's what it is, right?

What business have the LIV players set up with the LIV ? They’re independent contractors.
