Yep, lost it on 16. It was his to win at that stage and I kind of felt that with Cabrera butchering 13, He went from in the mix to 2 ahead perhaps too quickly - and suddenly he is on 16 tee with a tournament to win or lose. It was a bad tee shot, but it was a pretty simple second shot, bad club selection then bad execution. 17 was a poor second shot (i know he said it only needed a couple more feet, but that was straight at the stick, no room for error over there) and his bunker shot was nearly impossible, in fact he did well just to get it on the right tier. His time will come.
I reckon Scott was really lucky having Leishman with him, made a big difference. Apart from the Aussie factor (and I noted them chatting all day, must have helped, especially when they had to wait a fair bit over the last 5 holes), Leish actually played really well, and hits is similar to Scott. It felt like Leish was pacing him all day.

Thanks for the insight. You do realise in a few years their will be 1,000,000 Aussies claiming they where there when Scott won.

Good points hutstar, pairings are very important. What a great day to be there, were there lots of aussies?

It did seem a fair bit slower than normal that last half dozen holes, although Mark Allen said the rain was pretty heavy for most of it so that must have made it pretty tough. I thought Cabrera would have been put off by the delays, he's a step up and hit type I would assume would be annoyed at slow play.

There was a fairly large aussie contingent. The locals were clearly all for him too, though to be fair, they supported everyone well.
The play was pretty slow. I was on 13 when Langer had a shocker and I think it buggered all the 4? groups behind. By then it was pissing down also, and that didn't help.
Most of the aussies hung around for the jacket presentation. It was weird, because as organized as the masters clearly is, they had know idea what was going to happen once he won. I spoke to committee guys, staff and finally, about 30 mins later a few AGU guys wandered past and told us it was off, due to the rain and lateness. They left.
We didn't see how they could stiff 100+ staff photographers from around the world, so we hung in. 10 or so minutes later some sheriff officers come and clear the footpath, and everyone got excited, we knew what that meant. By now it is dark and belting down. 5 minutes later Bubba then Scotty come out, and they are both really pumped up, because the remaining crowd is going mental.
From there you know the rest. The shots from the presentation are great. I was on the front cover of every major daily in the world yesterday, though you can't really tell for the most part. Scott was SO pumped up, as I am sure you can tell. Very gracious though gave everyone still there a clap in their direction and a wave. Bubba was clearly digging it too - I expect a bit more rowdy than last year.
Various events were planned both formal and otherwise, but I knew I faced 500 miles back to Florida at 6am. I was actually happy to get back to my room with a pizza and a beer to watch it on replay (Golf channel alone makes the US tolerable) - watching the Masters on TV with a point of reference for the first time.

Plenty to tell and I do intend writing it all up in the next few days so I don't forget myself. No cameras means there isn't a great record of events - but I wont soon forget it.

Sounds awesome Hustar
It would be great to see Bubba and Adam together.

In order for me to win one some day I'm working on the d-swing
- start dropping my hands
- stop coming over the top

Aussies have started well at US Open, although 1st round most players incomplete due to weather/light.

1 - Luke Donald -4 13 -4
T2 - Phil Mickelson -3 F* -3 67
T2 - Adam Scott -3 11 -3
T4 - Webb Simpson -2 8 -2
T4 - Mathew Goggin -2 6* -2
T4 - Alistair Presnell -2 6* -2
T7 - Nicolas Colsaerts -1 F* -1
T7 - Lee Westwood -1 13 -1

Sometimes its good to see the pros made to look like weekend hackers as the golf course takes a hold of them.

Another great effort by Jason Day.

He has played 11 majors for 4 top 10 finishes including 3 2nds. Hopefully his time in the sun isnt too far away.

Looks like Phil is not a popular winner.

They were wrapping him up on SEN this morning but a couple of years ago on the same station they were relating various Mickelson anecdotes about welched golf bets etc. and basically implying he was a very ordinary bloke.

Our old mate Redford had some ripper Phil stories

Good start to the final major of the year by the Aussies...

Adam Scott equal leader with Jim Furyk at -5 and Jason Day and Marcus Fraser at -3.

Would love to see Day break his duck...he has been so close.

Was at Royal Melbourne today, looking awesome for this time of year, greens already like rock, amazingly green with great overage.....world cup an masters should be great

Yep, access to water and a decent green keeper has transformed the place.

What is Rory McILroy thinking!!!
Girlfriends as hot as Carloine Wozniacki are harder to find than Golf form

Nah, that's not allowed. you've reached the crossroads and are negotiating with the devil. He says, you can win a major or date Caroline Wozniacki. You choose, golf immortality or the tennis babe?
