Global Warming

Invest our money on infrastructure that has a lasting benefit.

like classrooms and libraries for our children and home insulation so everyone can reduce heating/cooling costs?

Except that they aren't doing it "regardless of how the power is manufactured" they are in fact taking careful regard and are implementing more renewable energy infrastructure than anywhere else.

Yes, but you are ignoring that they (China and India) are implemeting more coal power station than anywhere else too!

1200 planned new coal power stations and 76% of them are to be built in China and India.

I'm not ignoring it, I'm shining a light on the fallacious argument that Australia is alone in the wilderness of climate change policy and India and China are pumping out emissions without regard for future energy production and clean energy solutions. If they didn't care and were completely irresponsible they wouldn't implementing the largest and most costly renewable infrastructure in the world, especially not in a Communist country. So why are they doing it?

Good try.
I've got no problems with classrooms or libraries, care to show me where I've said I have?
I do have a problem with $million school halls that weren't asked for or 10m2 tuck shops costing over $600k or a library for one student at $250k. But obviously you don't.

"Everyone" didn't get home insulation did they? And of those that did, how many were done properly to maximise the effectiveness. Yep plenty of waste, but it seems like it depends on which government does the wasting seemingly in your eyes.
I'm against government waste from any government, regardless of their political doctrine. Something that seems to go past you. Perhaps you'd better open both eyes.

pretty sure Lamby posted good links in another thread that showed that very little money was wasted on school halls etc, and instead most of the money was spent on needed buildings.
i also go by what economist say when it comes to the economy. many have said that getting that money out, and out quickly, helped Australia's financial position. so, while some was 'wasted', in the bigger picture we are better off because of the spending.

So, you agree some was wasted. Good. Glad to see we can agree on something.

Nothing flawed about it.

You could shut Australia down tomorrow and leave it to the Aborigines and it would make no difference whatsoever to global warming.
We are a small fish in a big ocean when it comes to total carbon emissions.

that is downright illogical on so many levels. Black fellas emitted carbon in the olden days through firestick farming and more recently through such things as driving cars, using electricity, eating steak and farting. We are talking about human induced global warming Livs and NEWSFLASH, aborigines are HUMAN. :hihi (had to do a cute laugh). I do enjoy it when you lay down your hand and make it abundantly clear that you arent that smart. Its OK, libs usually do that sooner or later.

Illogical version 2.0. Our emissions are small so lets do nothing. I will make the point again, using this logic, the lone pedophile could justify rooting little kids by saying "but the catholic church root HEAPS of little kids, ill stop when they stop"

Your analogy is a little off colour, even for me TGW. I just wish, perhaps I am dreaming, that every now and again Livers would admit that he does just it to stir us up and knows deep down that his argument is fallacious. It's either that or his he's assisting the Libs in keeping productivity low, so they can score cheap political point - even though I can't find anyone who can tell me how they actually measure productivity and isn't just a way for my boss to get me to do more for the same money? - by keeping me on here instead of doing my bit for the economy.

Does anyone know what your Government is actually spending your hard earned carbon tax on?

And I don't just mean 'renewable energy'. Have they ringfenced the tax revenue for specific projects? Or is it just all disappearing into the tax black hole?

I think you can make a point without using such a distasteful analogy TGW. Distasteful and disgraceful actually.

OK, the weight of evidence says my analogy is out of line so ill cop it. I must add though, that it is the pedophile that is out of line rather than my insensitively worded analogy. I also think that the big multinational polluter who cares for nothing other than their own bottom line, excuse the pun, is essentially buggering the planet without consent.

The analogy was designed to be shocking, because I think CONSCIOUS destruction of the planet IS shocking. I also think the logic that Livs is using, which IS essentially the old school yard "but they are doing it too", is PATHETIC.

I cant offer an unreserved apology, because I have added so many caveats. I do however, equivocally apologise for the crude language of my analogy and regret any offence I have caused.

Wayne stuck nearly $2,000 stuck in my bank earlier this year to help with my electricity bill, which has gone up by about $1000 per year. I would have preferred Wayne to have given me a grand and perhaps put the other grand towards a teachers aide's salary in an underacheiving school in the desert.

How low can the Greenie go? :-\

Of course Aborigines are humans who emit a carbon footprint...but if we shut Australia down today and left it to the Aborigines, the amount of carbon the remaining Aborigines left in Australia would emit would be so close to zero, that it would not matter.

The number of Chinese and Indian coal-mines would take care of Australia's emissions savings plus some.

However, I think I won't get anywhere discussing such a topic with someone who starts linking child pedophilia in some sort of bizarre analogy with climate change.

How about Wayne cut foreign aid and give you your $2000 plus use the rest of the money to persuade people away from desert areas that aren't sustainable in the long term for generations of people?

Or how about you get off your arse and either get a job or get a second job?
Maybe the school then might get the whole $2000.

There's a couple of options ;)

Wooo Hooo, pushing ultra conservatives into trotting that one out is soooooooo much fun

OK, so maybe my pedo analogy was too oblique. Lets try another one

Just say an Adelaide establishment fellow, Ooops, we were trying to get away from kiddy fiddling, I'll take another tack. O.K, just say I am drenching my cows with a banned chemical called DEADLY XXX. Ive only got 50 cows. The bloke up the road is using the same chemical on 500 cows. when it rains, it washes into the creek and kills fish and stuff. I rationalise it by saying "When Old Bill stops using Deadly XXX, I will stop using it". Old Bill is thinking to himself "well TGW uses it down the road, fancy pants city boy trying to be a farmer, buggered if IM gonna stop using it".

The alternative I am saying is, even though i am having a way smaller impact, I could stop using DEADLY XXX, and then say to Old Bill "He Bill, you shouldnt use DEADLY XXX, it kills fish and stuff".

simple enough for you Livsy old son? Easy to try marginalise a bloke who is orders of magnitude smarter and nicer than yourself by saying "he said the P-word", when it was clear from the analogy, however oblique and poorly drawn, that talking about pedophilia, in an admittedly crude manner, is not really that 'low' at all. You wade in even after i offered an apology to Willo and an explaination of my weird logic (polluters buggering planet, justifying it by saying everyone else is doing it = flawed logic IT DOESNT STAND UP). It is taking all my keyboard self control to avoided calling you a complete *smile* whose lack of ability to really plot an intellectual course through an issue is glaringly obvious. I wont though, cause its not really your fault that you arent that smart.

:headscratch

hmmmmmmmm.

lucky you didn't say what you said.

Firstly, I 'waded in' because your ridiculous analogy was quoted and aimed at myself...you can aplogise to Willo or anyone you like, but seeing as you were "talking' to me, then I simply offered a reply.
If you can't hack that, can't hack people with different views, and can't stick to the debate in question without resorting to ridiculous analogies and personal insults, then maybe leave a thread like this to the adults in future.
Cheers!

Just to put this ridiculous hypothesis to bed once and for all ::)

And Bill turns around and says "Get *smile* mate, I already have the infrastructure to use DEADLY XXX...I can sell items cheaper than you, and with the majority market share and less rules and regulations on my property, you're going to be out of business within a year".

So let's quit with this childishness and stick to reality, eh?
