He'll always be Griggs to me
So, getting back to Griggs. If we got him back to the club, what coaching role would best suit him ?

I'd like to see him take on a forwards and transition into the forward line type of role. He played as a mid and a forward so Griggs might be useful in that respect.

It’s not just about the game plan. You need the right personnel to effectively implement it. Geelong have been playing a variation of possession footy under Scott for a decade. They have been recruiting and developing the players to suit that game style for just as long. The recent rule changes means they had to change nothing, in fact they could just double down on everything they were already doing and reap the rewards.

In contrast, we went in a different direction. We play a low possession, high pressure game that relies on causing turnovers and punishing our opponents for them. Like Geelong, we invested heavily in this game style and recruited and developed a list to play that style to maximum effect. Unlike Geelong who profited from the rule changes, we were heavily punished. Much of what we built over the last few years has been effectively ruined.

Anyway, getting someone like Knights to helps us bring in a chip, chip style isn’t going to work because we don’t have the players to do it.
We were certainly caught by the stand rule change, and Geelong greatly assisted.
There has been talk of going back to where the rule was but I don’t think that is going to happen, at least not while the present AFL CEO and footy director remain.
No use complaining .. we need to adjust.
Not sure that Dimma is ready to do that and maybe he needs help.
One of the most impressive possibilities as a future AFL coach is McRae, now a hawk.
We should be focusing there.

No idea what type of coach he would make but with our large number of indigenous boys Eddie Betts would possibly one to chat to.

What would be the attraction of knighter, what’s his resume look like . Has he been involved with any flags . Sounds like his highlight is being tutored under Chris Scott ,,,no thanks

Newy has been in the Harvard of coaching under Clarko and in 3y at box hill 1 x r/up 1 x flag
I know who I’d prefer

Agree 100% BJ.

Showed great leadership through the Terry Wallace saga and has had a pretty good apprenticeship at the Hawks. As you said BJ his time as coach of Box Hill stands out as he was named VFL coach of the year in 2017 taking them from 10th to 2nd in his first year before winning the flag in 2018.

The experts seem to place a heavy emphasis on coaching your team as a must have credential for prospective coaches. Newy has placed a massive tick in that box which shows he is made of the right stuff.

Is knighter any good does anyone know??
Was coach of Bendigo gold vfl did nothing to speak of , coached the bombers , made the finals with 10.5 wins , belted, sacked soon after ,,,,i think he’s gone ok as cats vfl coach , has he won a flag ,,,not sure . I just think there’s a far greater merit coming thru hawthorn of late and the trend is undeniable
