Caracella, Leppa and McRae is a lot of talent to lose. And it's hurt us this year.

Just watching last night at half time on the Fox Footy coverage, they pointed out how we are 3rd from playing on from marks. And GWS destroyed us with slow, but methodical movement.

Perhaps the days of the "chaos ball" are over and we need to adapt to the way we move the ball.

We've been complaining about our ball movement going forward all season. This needs to be a focus in the preseason.

Our number 1 coaching target should be Matty Knights. Geelong are the best at moving the ball methodically. We could do with some of Geelong's IP at Richmond.

Benny Gale, you know what to do...

It’s not just about the game plan. You need the right personnel to effectively implement it. Geelong have been playing a variation of possession footy under Scott for a decade. They have been recruiting and developing the players to suit that game style for just as long. The recent rule changes means they had to change nothing, in fact they could just double down on everything they were already doing and reap the rewards.

In contrast, we went in a different direction. We play a low possession, high pressure game that relies on causing turnovers and punishing our opponents for them. Like Geelong, we invested heavily in this game style and recruited and developed a list to play that style to maximum effect. Unlike Geelong who profited from the rule changes, we were heavily punished. Much of what we built over the last few years has been effectively ruined.

Anyway, getting someone like Knights to helps us bring in a chip, chip style isn’t going to work because we don’t have the players to do it.

Exactly. We have a massive dilema. Do we continue with our fast surging game plan or do we change to a slower possession style? If we decide to change we need to prepare for a severe drop down the ladder and a lengthy rebuild coz as you rightly point out we're gonna have to completely reshape our list. An assistant coach from Geelong won't make much difference.

We do not need to change to be like Geelong. Where we are being beaten is in clearances.

Our game plan has been not to worry about clearances but have the out number at the next possession after a stoppage, creating a turnover and chaos ensues. Centre clearances in particular driving the ball into our backline. We then have to work the ball forward but we are losing stoppages as well.

Fix the clearance plus work on forward 50 entries and we will be better. Having some luck with injuries would be nice.

We need strong assistant coaches with high football IQ"s and if Knights fits the bill then he should be under consideration.

If Hardwick is nervous about this type of assistant the he must have been nervous when Caracalla and Lepitch rocked up in 2017 and that worked out well for us.

Ummmmm. Why does Mr. Google have every article I could see on him misspelled as Grigg? Surely Mr. Google isn't that stupid or incompetent?
