GAME DAY Tiges v Pies

Huge game. Shame we're missing a few. Irrespective of Collingwood's form, the main things I want to see from us tonight is maximum pressure in and around the contest, positive clearance differential and don't allow uncontested position/switch of play from our forward half.

Achieve that and we'll be in the game. I'm expecting that we'll come to play - hope I'm right.

I dunno man, BOM radar is suggesting some showers at least in the next couple of hours

What do I wanna see tonight?

A consistent four quarter effort.

No *smile* lapses

All the form leading in is mostly in favour of the skunks ... unfortunately. Would love to prick their balloon, especially for Dimma's 300th and against a high-flying protege.

However, I think their run and pace, along with more elite kickers, will be tough for us to combat at this point in the season. Our form is unconvincing to me - couldn't put Cartoon away and allowed Crows back into it in an awful Q3. Now four more vital players out. It's a tall order although maybe the weather will help. So would Shai not messing around, and our young players have to step up and inject speed, make tackles and deliver the ball well. But not sure anyone other than MRJ will apply much forward pressure, and that's a major weakness now with the 3 amigos all gone.

But should be a contest to tell us exactly where we're at with players like JR8. Personally I think Cotch will prove his worth again to the doubters this year.

More blind hope than confidence tonight for me - hate to say.

Who gives a toss about tonight.
We have Ross and TivedaRaplh Smith playing
5 quality players out and we have 3 sparkling brand new cups in the cabinet.
*smile* then ley them be April champions like they were in 19. And cop a ball slapping when it counts.

Apparently Collingwood are in "red hot" form and the team to beat for the flag (already? so early!). Haven't watched any of their games. So no idea about them.
Like every week, just wanting the Tiges to have a fair dinkum crack.
The rest is in the lap of the footy gods.
Looking forward to the contest, on so many levels.
Richmond by nine points. A Cotch.

Tough match this one.Reckon we could end up on top of the ladder should we win, that is,if the Saints/dons draw and Swans lose.

Having said that.Tiges to win.Ryan bags 6.Hugo plays his best ever game, and Pickett not to be reported.Easy.

I am not that confident. Big outs all at once, but Hopper will really hurt us. We have to win the midfield battle to win the game on Collingwood's recent form.

The good news is, when I am not confident we usually win.

The Pies have been good, but gee the media love to build clubs up for a fall. 1st Melbourne in Rd 1 ("they won't lose a game this year" - lose the following week) and now the Pies. The media are making out like they are some sort of runaway steam train that will win the next 5 flags at a canter.

They beat Geelong in Round 1 when they over ran them in the final quarter (the Pies are very fit), and last week they flogged Port. I'd say every single team in the comp would win by at least 10 goals when you win contested possession by 57. What were Port doing, couldn't win the footy and the Pies still laid 17 more tackles than them. Definition of witches hats!!

The Pies form guide is hard to tell. Were they amazingly good last week and replicate it, or were Port that bad. They went from smashing the Lions in CP by about 35, to losing that stat to the Pies by 57!! Remarkable turnaround.

If you match them in the middle, win our fair share of the ball at the contest and control posession then we will score. They score well from relatively low levels of Inside 50's due the speed on the ball, so we need to slow that. They smashed Port last week but still only had 57 Inside 50's (+10). They scored 30 times in those 57 Inside 50's (21 of them goals). Thats largely unheard of, goals per inside 50 at 37%!! AFL average last year was 23% with a range of 20% to 26% showing how much Port were a bunch of witches hats last week.

We need to make sure that we compete a lot better at the contest and in the tackle. Do that, and we are certainly good enough to win the game tonight. Breakeven at CP, breakeven in Inside 50's, I'd back our forward line to score well. Last week we scored goals at 33% per Inside 50 so not that far off the Pies and we played a much more competitive opponent.

It's not the be all and end all but it would be a great 4 points to bank.

Hopefully Cotchin and Riewoldt get the scent of big game in their nostrils and lead the way.

Looking forward to another great performance from the umpires as well!

By the way, too many expressions of hate so far in this thread. Be the shepherd. Try real hard to be the shepherd.

Going in mildly optimistic. Actually feel like hopper is the biggest out for us. Dusty not in form yet. Hopefully we can win it at the source and shai has his first 3 voter of the season.
