GAME DAY Tiges V Giants

Giants can certainly draft some good players. Especially since SOS left. Heaps of depth.
They have got gold in return.
Adams, Williams, Wilson, Shield
Hartley, all the picks Carlton has given them.
They might lose players but they have been compensated

So many issues hard to know where to start. But inevitably it’s only 3 or 4 and they usually rectify a bunch of others. For me they’re the following and sort of dovetail a bit:

1. Midfield, clearance, contested possession smashings. Opposition win and then get control of the ball too easily.

2. When the opposition get it, they pick us apart with a superior skill level, chipping around us. No defensive energy or pressure like we used to have.

3. Strategy wise we can’t a) stop the opposition high possession game and b) can’t move the ball forward with any clinical system either.

4. Skill level. Some of b) above is attributable to poor skill level. Also when teams roll back we’re not skilful enough to dissect it.

Grunt/pressure/strategy/skill level.
Hmmm...that's pretty much the whole ball game!
Well, beach volleyball has openings I hear. BYO bikini of course.

Really bad tonight. Really bad.

Makes you wonder how we managed to turn around the clearances in last year's finals. Our centre clearances are woeful, again.

MRJ may not be ready but this is good experience, I would play him again next week. I would keep persisting with the likes of Ralphsmith, Dow, Mansell et al too as they need the experience. A good pre-season to bulk up a bit and they show some signs.

We have clearly not adjusted to the way the game is being played at the moment. We need taller players, we can't continue to field sides which are shorter and lighter than the opposition, it just ain't working. We need better disposal skills. We need some quality ball getters in the centre. We need to defend the centre clearances better too as we used to be able to lose centre clearances but the opposition's disposals out of the centre were low quality under extreme pressure - now they just waltz out of there with all the time in the world and no pressure.

We just don't seem to have any outlets, no players there to offer support or receive the ball. GWS have them in every contest.

Richmond are knackered, I think 2020 took too much out of them all - players and coaches. 2021 on top of 2020 and all the disruptions this year have not helped. The players no longer seem to be enjoying themselves either. Need a big break and then a big pre-season.

Time to turn down the sound and put a blues record on.

Just as an aside, the umpiring has been all over the place, but that's all I expect - mediocrity is all they are capable of, not good enough.
