It was instinct to pick up the ball, and as you said he let go of it as soon as the free was called.Hopper picks up ball and then dropped it JUST 5 MM when hearing a free against us.

Agreed. Hope we go on with it. Would be a huge win.At my count it's five gifted goals. Two from Grimes, one from Vlossy and 2 from the umps.
We're playing very well to be in front.
Correct. Clear as day you could see the ump pay advantage. The umpire closest to the play called advantage the non-officiating called it back. Comedy capers.
If he threw it away, OK, but he didn't. Why our obligation to HAND the ball to them???It was instinct to pick up the ball, and as you said he let go of it as soon as the free was called.
It’s not like they have no clear view or if it’s a 50/50.Yet again another insane example of why I have no respect what so ever for AFL umpires.
They bounce the ball 2 metres outside the circle, clearly favouring Gawn, and they simply call “play on”. Even the sycophantic commentators were shocked.
Zero respect. None.
Pedantic 50 metre penalty at best. Not sure Hopper was supposed to give the ball back when the whistle went almost simultaneously.Hopper picks up ball and then dropped it JUST 5 MM when hearing a free against us.
Contrary to popular opinion, umpiring is not that difficult. It just needs rational decision making & basic game understanding.Imagine just ONE game that wasn't influenced by incompetent, useless umpires.
Just ONE where the players could determine the result.
*smile* I'm so over this *smile*
100% THIS.It was instinct to pick up the ball, and as you said he let go of it as soon as the free was called.
Nah, respectfully disagree T2011.Pedantic 50 metre penalty at best. Not sure Hopper was supposed to give the ball back when the whistle went almost simultaneously.
The Rioli non free was worse.

I don’t where the umpires come from but there’s a distinct lack of feel for the game amongst most. Rules don’t help, but even so - just adjudicate on what you see.
Agree, Im just dumfounded by it, he looks so unsure about everything he is trying to do ......It’s just so unlike his whole career.
YAY having 17 umpires on the ground...The umpire closest to the play called advantage the non-officiating called it back. Comedy capers.
Hopper knew what he was doing. Changed the momentumthe 50 was stupidity.
