GAME DAY Tigers V Pies

The last 4 weeks Chol has been our ruck man,he tries hard, but his best football is in the first half ,after that he struggles .
Cotchin has been a champion at the club ,but he doesn't do enough,l have seen borderline mids doing more at other clubs .

The young player's in ,just don't have the fitness yet ,but it is probably the time to play as many as possible ,give them as much game time as possible, and get ready for a big 2022
We've been critical of Cotch and Dusty but we need to pull back a bit. Dimma said Cotch is playing sore and they would like to rest him but can't with so many other injuries. Dusty has a sore foot that needs a spell but we can't afford that luxury atm.

This is what I don’t understand. Why push him? So far it’s made no difference.
Best to play a young kid and get some games into them.

With North beating the Eagles it makes our loss against the pies worse. We would have been in the 8 tonight.

Our side is so banged up it's not funny.

Midfield decimated, and those that are still on the field are playing injured or sore. The short pre-season and continual short break between games have been the AFL's poison pill. Our next game against the Lions is off a 5 day break. The argument in relation to the short pre-season was that playing 2020 so late forms part of the pre-season. That's worked ok for Geelong, and didn't seem to affect us early on, but when you lose half of the players from your premiership campaign, you are replacing them with players who not only didn't play late into last season, but didn't have a feeder copetition to play in either.

Ask yourself how much conditioning these players have had going into this season:
Garthwaite, Stack, Chol, Mancel, Ross, RCD, Dow, Naish.

Our side isn't a group that just rolls over and dies. You don't go from grinding teams into the ground for 4 years, to being a roll over easy beat over night because you couldn't be bothered puttin gthe effort in. They simply can't go with other teams now because they don't have the body of work in them.

Add to that list above, these players:
Vlasstuin, Grimes, Martin, Cotchin, Astbury, Lynch, Bolton. McIntosh

All players who took the field against the Pies who are either playing injured or have had an interrupted season.

We've even started to go more towards a chipping / keepings off style of game prior to the Pies game. That couldn't possibly be our preferred method of play. I'm guessing we've tried to play a less taxing style because we realise we just don't have the conditioning to play our ballistic game style. That's bee na disaster for us. Against the Pies we've tried to return to that ballistic style and it got us 5 goals up, and we didn't look bad at times.

But then the gas ran out, which is exacly why i think in previous weeks we haven't played that style.

As much as i'd love us to make a late run if we get troops back, i just can't see us having the fitness to do what we've done in previous years.

Next year, with games into kids, and the senior guys fit from a normal pre-season, we could well dominate again.

It's a pity about this year, because it really is a flag up for grabs, because no team out there is really A grade, not the Dogs, not the Demons, not Geelong and not Brisbane.

Under normal circumstances, i think we would have been doing the 3 peat!

What annoys me is,Cotch isn't the only midfielder ,don't they realize Grundy etc are going to dominate Chol ,we just don't read the play very well.

We'll see if Geelong can sustain their form to the end as they had the same disadvantage of playing very late into 2020.

We have massive injuries and banged up players, I think also mental tiredness after such a sustained run over the last 4 years.

The game is in similar shape, time to roll back a fair number of the rule changes and let it develop, none of them work anyway.

There are plenty of excuses for the crowd numbers this year but I really can't see the numbers returning to the game for quite a long time, the AFL should be addressing this, but they won't because to do so would be to admit they have made a mess.

I'm tipping the Cats to hit a wall

There is too much noise around for the Afl to keep the stand rule ,and really it's not progressive ,player's where standing the mark in the 60's,70's,80's etc .

One of the reasons that the kids are struggling is that COVID has cost them 12 months of development at VFL level. If we pack up shop for the season we can give them lots of senior games. They will swim or sink

Players were less active on the mark back in the 60s, 70s etc but they certainly weren't nailed to the ground like they are now. It has always been the case that players move on the mark.

Restricting movement takes away what makes Australian Rules Football the unique sport it is. If the morons at AFL House want a different game they can go and run a different organisation, to be honest they can just f*** off as far as most supporters are concerned.

Not so sure. They've made plenty of changes listing outs as "managed", same as they did in 2011. Reckon they have learned their lesson are trying to keep something in the locker so they can step it up in finals.

If I'm right, look for Hawkins to be "managed" in the next few weeks. ;)
