GAME DAY Tigers V Pies

Wow! Just how bad is that. Just wow.
Sometimes ya just gotta laugh.

I think the players are shot physically and mentally, and the kids arent good enough and cant hold up their end its that simple.

Its been a cluster since we returned to Pre Season, we've run out of steam and our guys are shot.

I think that enforced extra month of Covid travelling all over the place away from families again etc nailed us and took what was left out of the group, but they wont admit to it.

It is what it is.

I’ll just try and find a few positives on the day , liked MartYns and Parker’s games in the VFL , both can play midfield, MJ, Hugo and Cumberland showed some good signs , especially Cumberland, ballistic is the word for me. Thought all our kids at AFL showed glimpses , not enough but buts to work with, hopefully they can all find there feet in the coming weeks

I like the look of Mansell to be honest.

Compact, tough, plays with confidence even if the cheques are still bouncing.

Looks a player to me.

Not filthy at the loss , but that last quarter there was no fight or effort . I'm upset at our senior players there was still enough out there to stand up yet all went to water.

It was disappointing to go down with little fight in the last quarter.
But I would have been more disappointed if the result was the same and we had Nank, Edwards, Prestia, Lambert, Vlaustin, Broad, Balta, Houli, all playing. That’s a bloody big chunk out of any team.

Granted, the players on field didn’t last out the game, but enough of the vitrio. Chol was hurt in the early first qtr, but tried throughout under duress. Yeah May lack the intensity some want, but until you’re in his boots on the day and know the extent of the injury or the pain he played through, I think he deserves a break. This time anyway.
Cotch, Jack and couple of others maybe have carried more of a heavy load. With Lynch out, Jack was covering a lot of grounds, yesterday’s efforts don’t define his usual game. Cotch has had to cover Prestia, Lambert, Edwards, maybe due to age and body battering he’s feeling the pinch. A luxury for us would be having him used in bursts then having a rest. He ain’t getting much of a break.
It doesn’t help not having Nank there to help combat and bash some opposition on ballers.

Take out 4 key players out of any teams backline and I guarantee they’ll struggle.
But all that is part and parcel of the game.
Just get the injured players fully fit and recovered, don’t exacerbate any injuries. If our older players are rooted and need a break, we’ll rest them and see what else we have in the cupboard. Don’t ride them into the ground.

The backline stood up but couldn't cope with them running out of the middle time after time.

I wish the Caddy Man was capable still, but he's done mate, one of quite few that will and should retire at years end, been a gun for us though and I love the guy.
Another one consistently played out of position for some bizarre reason. Great support as a third forward . Average on wing.

Personally I think we did too much kicking aimlessly towards the goal square.
i dont understand why Jack and Lynchy stay together in the square, surely if they both lead out in different directions they both cant be covered by the opposition

Yep, I noted they often led to the same spots and spoiled each other...as well as dragging extra defenders with them... and we still kicked to this outnumber!

I have been on the Cotchin should retire bandwagon but the reality is the poor bloke is coming out week in week out because we have no one else available. We have a full list to choose from and Cotchin doesn't play every week. He gets managed. He used his body as a battering ram for those 3 premierships and without him we win none.
Gets another year on a managed plan as he is part of the heart and soul of what turned this club around.

He didn't did he? They've won 5 games!!

Geez that is 2016 Dimma
Jack started it with his insipid effort running toward goal. Jack was embarrassed by Maynard in almost every one in one. I don’t want to watch that sort of stuff each week. Watch a replay and count how many times he was beaten by Maynard. Maynard has become a very good player but Jack should beat him or at least halve contests. Can’t see how we won’t see more of this in 2022 from Jack.
Of course it doesn’t halp
Missing half your midfield but I expect more from Jack. He wasn’t up for the fight. Understandable, he’s got 3 flags, a young family and a bright media future. He’s lost the edge (ditto crotch, Astbury, Houli). It’s no shame.
Perhaps things will change if we had the full list to choose from but there’s bad signs.
Add Dusty to that ditto list, lately he is getting beaten in 1-on-1 contests by average players.

I know it sounds like an easy "OUT", but I cant but help to think that somethings happened within the club or playing group we aren't privy too. You can't capitulate to the extent this team has in the space of 4 weeks, doesnt make any logical sense whatsoever. I hope I'm wrong and that its simply a case of a whole group of guys having a mare/slump at the same time, but my gut tells me differently I'm afraid to say.
The last 4 weeks Chol has been our ruck man,he tries hard, but his best football is in the first half ,after that he struggles .
Cotchin has been a champion at the club ,but he doesn't do enough,l have seen borderline mids doing more at other clubs .

The young player's in ,just don't have the fitness yet ,but it is probably the time to play as many as possible ,give them as much game time as possible, and get ready for a big 2022

If we can somehow manage to beat the lions or the cats, we are still a strong chance to make the 8. Its a close season, a win yesterday we would of went from 12th to 7th.
We are still a chance, if we can make the 8th and get our troops back, i wouldnt want to be playing us with a chip on our shoulder from being written off as of now.

I agree. It's not over until it's mathematically impossible.

Interestingly, other than Graham who is always at the top 61, and Bolton 47, the others at the top for pressure act points (HS) were RCD 54, Stack 51 and Mansell 44. Obviously they want to make an impact with the chances they've been given but to me it also indicates potentially that the Tigers are tired. It's a long time at the top.
