GAME DAY SEMI THREAD - Tiger vs Saints

All I remember is watching the game last night. In real time it was very hard to tell, but I distinctly remember the siren going as he kicked it on the replay.

Didn't notice the clock at all.

At the end of the day the siren is not the end of the quarter so a moot point anyway.

DS

It's when the umpires hear the siren and signal the end of the quarter. The ump actually explained this to Dylan Grimes at the time IIRC.

Remember ‘siren gate’?
That wasn’t as bad as that but if that was the last kick in the semi and Butler kicked the goal’ would Dimma run out on the ground??

True it is ‘when the umpire hears it’ but it was close.

in real time i thought the siren had gone, but on the replay i reckon he clearly kicked it. the countdown clock disappears with maybe 3 sec to go, so it feels like the siren should have gone, but it hadnt.

Can anyone who was at the game tell me how we used our 8 backs?
Obviously DTLD, and the Balta did a little rucking, but i reckon Nank still did most.
I didnt notice any of the 8 anywhere else on the field, besides that bit of rucking.
Did they just rotate off the bench more? (we did seem to have 2 backs on the bench often.)

I think he kicked just as they blew the whistle. I suspect if it had been us kicking the goal they would have said the siren beat the kick.

Blew the siren you mean? Anyway, I watched it again and I was wr wr wro mistaken. Siren definitely goes at or slightly before he kicks it.

You weren't as right as you normally are :)

When I watched the game on Friday my initial thoughts were that we were scratchy and will have real trouble with Port.

After watching the replay and giving it some further thought I think we're right in it.
Our defence is very solid and having Broad back in gives us more options (as well as his hardness).
I'd give DTLD the job on Dixon and release Balta to relief ruck. His mobility is a real asset.
Lynch back in crashing packs, and won't kick as badly next week. Conditions will be better.
Our mids are miles better than what we dished up against Port last time. Prestia hitting his straps nicely.
Last time we flew in on the day! Probably contributed to our last quarter. This time we're going the day before.
We gave away silly 50m frees against Port. We were sucked in against the Lions. Much better against the Saints. Port will try and get under our skin again but Dimma will be in their ear again this week.

Bring the heat and we are a massive chance.

I don't get that. If they think a finger nail or boot lace may have gotten 6 inches close to the ball, they look at it for 5 minutes.
Why can't they do thee same for the buzzer?

Goal review for whether it was kicked before or after siren will never happen. If it goes against the umpires call then it says the umpire made a mistake.

Umpires don't make mistakes.

As I said, it ain't the siren which ends the quarter, it is the umpire.

Can't see them making this subject to the ARC, it ain't a great system and you wonder a bit about synching the sound when they do a slow motion replay. Leave it as is, the umpire calls the end of the quarter.

No, he clearly kicked the ball before the siren went. Was in midair as it sounded. There was an issue with it going after the clock expired though.
Agreed; my only problem was just how long it took for the siren to go after the TV clock expired. Really odd.

Yeah and they couldn't stop talking about Pendlebury breaking Buckley's captaincy record. Granted he also broke Tony Shaw's games record in the same game but still. How many flags has Pendlebury captained? Please remind me.

But no media bias against Richmond.......................
Three possible reasons....1. Pendles plays for the maggies so Eddie promotes them big time, 2. media regard Pendles as their scrupulously fair pin-up boy so they promote him at every opportunity, 3. Cotch plays it rough and tough which they don't like, not a good example to the youngsters, so they can't applaud someone who plays like that! I know who I'd like to have in my team and he's in it already. AFL is a man's game so I wish they'd keep that in mind.

Good to win and great to be in a 4th PF in a row. But geez we do it hard. That was not a convincing win by any stretch. So much fumbling and slipping over. I get the conditions but it seemed to affect us more than the Saints.

It was a strange game. Our pressure ratings were well off. We were below average or poor for the first 3 quarters. The only saving grace was that Saints were worse. We ramped it up to elite rating in last quarter and left them behind. We also did well in clearances and scored a lot of goals from that. We normally score goals from turnover but hardly did that tonight.

The pressure will be ramped right up next week. We will need to lift by levels; we play like we did tonight and we will get destroyed. If we play our best we will win; we can beat them even though it is a tough task in Adelaide. I'm just not sure we are going well enough to play at our best. No matter what the stats said there is no way we were playing as well this year as we did at the end of 2019. Not even that close really.

But is a different year so let's see what happens next week. Very proud that they are in another PF so let's "raise the fight" :))
Playing at AO next week will really suit us. We get a break from the Qld humidity and greasy conditions and we have 7 changes that really strengthen our side that was a point ahead of Port at 3/4 time. I reckon we'll get it done and probably play the Cats in a classic GF.
