Game Day-Scratch match Tiges v Norf

Dustin looks great but far too little time as a midfielder for mine.

We know what Dusty can do in the midfield. We also have two new shiny midfielders we need to play to gel with the other players and the game plan.

So in the first hit out against opposition in a trial match playing the two new shiny midfielders in the middle for the majority of the game seems like a plan.

When it gets serious Dusty will play more midfield minutes and allow him to bambozzle the opposition. Taeanto and Bolton will change with him.

Just finished re watching the match. That bloody Cujo bloke was actually on the ground in each of the first four periods of the game. Think he mighta managed one whole possession a qtr. Cumbersome lumberer.

Dusty, Cotch n obviously Shai, Fridge n Sonzarelli no midfield time so it was pretty much left up to Prestygiocomo, Shorty n Ross to bond with Tarantino n Grasshopper as our mid field core in this scratch match. Got a feeling we'll be fairly handy through the mid this year.

Taranto, Prestia and to a lesser extent Hopper, were good for us on Friday.
But we still got beaten too often in the centre clearances.
We’ve got to get better as we don’t want to be springboarding off hb all the time

One thing I forgot to mention was the 2 minute simulations of close end of game scenarios on Friday.

Never seen anything like that happen in a practice match before, looks like we are really sick of losing close games.

In the unlikely event we lose to Carlton sans Walsh in round 1 I'd be happy to put a million up against us winning the flag so feel free to reach out and take advantage.

Anyway, apologies if repeating as I haven't read the thread but popped in to have a look Friday and noticed the following:

Prestia looks a million bucks and all the better for the extra couple of mid field bulls to take the load.

Taranto is a much better player than I thought he was. Pissed myself when his first act as a Richmond player was giving away an elementary free kick. He will fit in well.

Of the new wave, thought Clarke was super impressive, very Lambert like.

Have definitely tweaked our defensive structure a bit, Balta has been turned in Astbury, not sure where that leaves Tarrant.

Early days but our pressure was not at premiership level, killed us last year and if we don't find our mojo it will again this year.
Did you really expect to see finals like pressure in a low key match simulation practice match. The leaders are just blowing out the rust and trying not to get injured. I think you are expecting a bit much in February.

Definitely a very good point you make, and a very plausible explanation. I thought because it would have been a focus for us over the preseason we might have seen some greater emphasis on it yesterday, but hopefully it will come as we climb the gears.

I'll have it on a watch over the next few weeks and into the start of the year.

I know it's early , but our defence needs to tighten to still simple mistakes not killing the ball , loose players , giving away to many marks in our back half and shots to. I hope Rutten rectify this or else same issues as last season will hold us back.

Stats would always make Tarrants game look like its dropping off as he played a specific role for us. For the Roos, he played a varied defensive role, defensive on talls but also intercepting. Our main focuses for intercept marks are Grimes, Vlastuin and Broad so he has no need to play that role. He played with 1 role and 1 role only (the same role as Astbury) and that was to stop the oppositions main forward and bar 1 or 2 instances where we failed, he did that role very well.
Dave would be upset with that comparison. He was more than that.

Knocking the ball away from your opponent can be good but it is far less than Dave did and far less that we could expect from a defender who actually brought some speed.
Conditions were poor yesterday and I accept that had an impact on both Young and Tarrant.

Only one will play round 1. Good luck to both against the D’s.

For Norf melbourne that game meant everything and they all wanted to prove to the football worl , their supporters and the players to their coaches that they have improved and i would say played probably their best game for the season.

For Richmond it was just a match sim and an opportunity to try new things and players in different roles without getting an injury
Next game will probably be a bit more serious and im expecting around 80% of the real game pressure and come out all guns blazing against Cartoon

Yep, bank the 4 points, not get to far ahead of our selves, one week at a time, focus on next week, and get the basic's right.

Have I missed any?

To be fair, North Melbourne are an outstanding team that are very well coached and will trouble a few this year
