GAME DAY - Round 14 - Tigers Vs Aints

Best win of the year by a country mile - beats beating the cats for sure.

The players are back playing for each other, the belief is there and we can now close out close games - that’s 3 in a row.

And as for Trent, just magnificent, he loves the club and they all love him him.
The players love Trent and more so the fans.

Was great being there and the boys winning it for him.

He is turning back the clock.

Tonight did show how desperate we are for a crumbing small forward. MRJ didn’t look dangerous offensively at all.

Matthew Coulthard may get fast tracked. And we missed Mansell. Never thought I’d say that.

Tys is in Slovenia.
I told him tonight was like the 2017 GF which we watched together. Pure joy.

That’s true. I am a little concerned about Moju, he has improved each year except this one.
He didn’t get a lot of the ball but I liked what Juddy Clarke did tonight but he isn’t a true crumbing forward

First game back in a while and all that, but too often Maurice seems to be where the ball ain't, seldom at the fall of the ball from a contest.

Agree - we desperately need a crumbing forward, it was the night for it and sadly MJ is out of form. Sadly Butler and Higgins with 5 goals between them showed us what it could look like.

I thought that would be a close game, StKilda have improved and we look to be in better form now than earlier in the season. But that was a heart stopper.

We were terrible for the first half of the first quarter, and then seemed to get our act together.

Our defence were stellar, keeping StKilda to 38% scores from inside 50s was a great effort.

Our forward line went pretty well too, 52% scores from inside 50s.

Their accuracy and the maggots kept them in it.

We still have work to do on skills. Too many handpasses miss the mark and too many kicks direct to the opposition, but I reckon it has improved, just needs to keep improving.

KMac had a bit of an off night, just seemed a little off in marking, but he does a tonne of work and is valuable.

Ross, too, had somewhat of an off night. Someone needs to put him about 35m out from goal on a 45 degree angle and just get him to kick for goal until he learns, cost us the Essendon game and from pretty much the same spot he screwed it up again tonight.

Cotchin was great, he is just astounding, looked to be dropping off earlier in the season but back in the middle and he's playing really well. I suspect he will still retire at the end of 2023 but he's certainly doing well at the moment.

The umpiring, what can you say? It was pretty blatant tonight, like last week really. We got 1 free in the first quarter - 1. Suppose that's better than none in the third quarter last week. They simply paid nothing to us. StKilda player drops the ball when tackled, they end up with the free kick. There was a period in the last quarter for maybe 5 minutes where Richmond players would tackle and the StKilda player would not dispose legally, or a Richmond player would get a high tackle, and yet the free would always go to StKilda. Grant Thomas is right, the umps have way too much influence. All we ask is to be umpired the same as the opposition, but that seems to be too much to ask. Incompetent fools.

Was great to see Dimma there tonight, he looks massively less stressed. Looks like the right call to quit, the pressure for almost 14 years would have been getting to him and he certainly needed to switch off for a while. Good luck to him, he gave himself to the club for so long, and delivered so much, he deserves the chance to chill out for a while.

Expected scores would’ve had us as winning by about 35 points. Their accuracy and 4 extra players wearing the yellow tops kept them in the game.

If we had lost tonight it would have been a travesty, we were better than them in the dry and we were better than them in the wet, but the umps did their best. It really shows how well we have played the last few weeks in that we have been flogged that badly by the umps but still come away with a fairly comfortable win. That trip on Baker that was then paid HTB was the epitomy of it.

I thought we were electric from the mid way point of the first half all the way until half time. The midfield group were very good, Cotch, Dusty and Taranto. Balta was good at the back, poor start but then toweled King after that.

Really pleased with the game, and was stoked to be there to see Cotch chaired off (with his kids was a nice touch).

I thought Kmac was actually good tonight, I thought he was one of the cleaner players when the ball was on the ground and did what he needed to to move the ball forward with it being wet weather footy in the 2nd half.

Interesting that King putting the ball in Balta’s face and taunting him probably backfired on him. Granted it was wet but Noah owned him after that.
Really liked the way he fought back

That cleared wound Balta up and he toweled him up after that. Who was the Saints player that came flying in at Balta when he put him on his arse in the 1st quarter?

Not sure Mr P. A lot of that was going on behind play and I was watching where the ball was.
I reckon Brodders is spot on with his summation of Balta. We have to accept he will have the odd mistake which costs us because the rest is very good.

Could have done with a Butler type tonight.

You may be right, I had less of a view tonight as we moved back to the standing room when it started bucketing. Just a few times I noticed when he stuffed up. Don't get me wrong, KMac is an automatic selection in our best 22, he is valuable but seems to attract attention when he stuffs up.
