Game Day - Richmond vs Brisbane - QF 2020

Agree. I said that on Monday.
Why did they decide so quickly to not play him?
At worse they could've done a late change.
Brisbane got 4 day advantage to prepare to play us without lynch.
Exactly. Why show our hand so early.
Keep them guessing
Love to play poker against Dimma.

Yep I think the break in latest years helps. Extra week for recovery for sore players or ones with niggles. If Nanks is forced to play another 2 x 90% gametime games before a grand final I shudder to think how he will be faring by then. I am really concerned about Nanks and over-working him as he's had his fair share of injuries as a result of that work ethic. I think we need to consider knock-on-wood, if Nanks were to go down who would be our primary ruckman and put time into that person as ruck backup. For me that person is Balta.
Are you thinking Balta in Ruck and forward? too good having him on the bench for half of each quarters.

I think it’s as sim0le as DTLD has been the Gorilla tamer and while he was out Balta took his role and imho did a better job overall, however now DTLD his gone back to his usual role and Balta is trying to get in sync in his new new role, hard for the lads after just 2 games
Agreed but it just indicates the problem is a coaching issue to get teammates to sync on field. We will get there

Can you believe this??

Tigers helping the coffers of the AFL little by little.

Jeez I hope we don't turn into a bunch of whingers crying "home ground advantage" like the Eagles fans do. We get a bloody good run most of the time
Agree with all but Chol. I agree on the role Chol played but he did it poorly. Andrews was probably in the top 3 most influential players on the ground. 12 1% and 9 intercepts show that Chol did not stop what Andrews does. Andrews averages have been 10 1% and 7 intercepts this year so if his role was to negate him and reduce that impact, his impact was better than his average so I'd say he didn't do a good job of negating Andrews at all.
Having rewatched, I'm confident we can beat them if we face off against them again in the GF.

Our defence was about as unorganised as we've seen them, couldn't take intercept marks from their F50 entries, we just couldn't get that 2nd man up. Wondering if those who are suggesting maybe Astbury coming back as imbalanced the backline could be right. Broad has always done very well on Hipwood in the past despite giving up a fair height difference.

Our ball use was not great. Nank showed in the last all we needed Chol to do during the game when Jack marked 20m out. Lynch would make a massive difference to the efficiency of our F50 entries and would bring the smalls into it a lot more.

I'm actually still confident we can go all the way, sure losing last night makes it harder but we have the ability to win the next 3 games and win the premiership.

Yes I was very disappointed the MC selected Chol.and not Broad.
Blatantly obvious Chol not up to it before this game and Broad had beaten Hipwood last 3 games.
A no brainer to play Broad and Balta as second tall.
I trust Dimma and MC but they went too safe and got it totally wrong. Probably cost us the game.
Caddy if fit also a no brainer.

Match report says we will be playing the winner or collingwood vs west coast. Seriously do these high paid journalists check their work at all before publishing? Total morons.

Was it David King? Does he still think West Coast will get a semi final in Perth?

Lions did this deliberately. .not perplexing. They planned to stop our run from defence and intercept marking..did both to perfection.
Does Dimma have a response?
And the way the used Cameron on Grimes.
They went to school on our backs and got under our skins. Ploy.

I think you gents are overestimating the importance of it by a fair margin.

No matter what was said or not said, Brisbane will have planned for Lynch to play and not play.

let’s not make it too easy for the opposition.

Missed the game as was out bush so will enjoy watching the replay with some of these comments.

I was disappointed with the result for the one reason that other clubs will see us as beatable.

otherwise I am not to worried as if we were to lose one this was it. - the saints didn’t look to threatening I thought it was a surprisingly open final - we won’t give them so much space guaranteed.

Don’t watch it year. Don’t. Taken me till this afternoon to get myself thinking positive again for the next final. Once it was the Saints it’s back to thinking how do we beat them.

But yeah for three quarters Saints we’re allowed too much ball in open space but in the last when the Dogs made it contested they just fell in.

TBR, I understand what you are saying about Chol, but even on the basis of what you say, Chol did not perform his role.

If he was there to provide a contest then the reasoning would be that Riewoldt would not have been triple teamed. The other side of this is that, if Riewoldt is triple teamed, then one of the most effective ways to stop that would be for Chol to then leave the area and be an alternate target. He didn't seem to do this.

Just not sure how Chol contributed to our cause to be honest.

I thought he was better when he was rucking in the last quarter, seemed to be trying to compete.

Chol really doesn't position himself well. If he wants to come in and leap for the mark he needs to be able to read the flight of the ball and anticipate where it is going. Instead, he is stuck nowhere he can influence the contest.

Very difficult situation given we need to be able to at least nullify the StKilda rucks next week.

I know we are very structured and system based and Dimma doesn't move his players around on match day (not sure what he does in the box besides watch the game) but in the last he should have moved either balta or dtld forward to provide another fwd target and combat andrews. Can't remember the last time dimma made such a move.

In hindsight Broad should have played on hipwood who he has beaten previously. Hipwood had an impact. Also Broad has the ability to cover charlie cameron when grimes went off. Short covered for him and was burnt.

I think we would have gone in content to create a forward stoppage without Lynch. Riewoldt's work was all about forcing the defenders to take the boundary option.

I can't see the full CD stats at the moment but I don't think we created a lot of score from forward 50 stoppage and I know our contested ball in forward 50 was terrible. I think we were able to neutralise in the aerial contest often enough but failed to win the contested ball at ground level once we did that.

No way did we neutralise the aerial contest to give our smalls a chance. Brisbane dismissed Chol and either marked or punches long and wide to the boundary.

To the eye it was the most we have been outplayed in this area all year.

Andrews was also dominant. BOG. Not sure how you or anyone can downplay his impact. It was where the game was lost

People raise this issue a lot but it didn’t hurt us in 2017 or 2019. Didn’t hurt WCE in 2018 either. The last 3 flags have been won by QF winners who then had another 2 week break into a PF.

Hopefully we can buck the trend but we’ve got a bit of work to do out of last night. Disappointing performance.
If you look at it from the other end we lost 2018 and we started like *smile* in the 2019 PF after having the break. Imagine hitting those games with momentum instead of being jumped? The only concern then is if we still have petrol tix for the GF. But with the week rest it shouldn't be a concern.

I'd call that dominant personally. You won't find many better defensive performances than that, those stats you showed I doubt have been replicated many times this season.

Yeh, he was very good. Named best in the Saturday age. Not sure you could argue Chol had any impact if his role was to negate Andrews. Did nothing to impact Andrews game.
