Game Day - Richmond v Geelong Preliminary Final

According to Mark Latham on Twitter the only reason Bachar got off running 30 metres to elbow Miers is because it would be politically incorrect to charge him and that the AFL practices reverse racism

I kid you not.

What a sad nasty man he has become

Serious?? Thats just messed up, the guy is a buffoon.
So how does he explain Houli's suspension for elbowing that Blooze player last year?

I wish I was on twitter. I would reply that the only reasons he got off were that a) there was nothing in it b) the geelong player dived to get a cheap free kick and c) Latham knows nothing about Aussie rules and should stick to rugby league comments.

Just re-watched that second quarter and it didn’t seem as bad as i remember it at the ground. Bolton and Dusty missed sodas. Jack and Dusty had gettable moments but took too long.

And then, of course, danger dived and Ray happened.

We possibly should’ve been level, maybe a goal down cos Blicavs had an easy miss.

The thing I found odd was the pissweak commentary around the danger dive. No one mentioned it!

I actually find Richo annoyingly non-committal sometimes.

In conclusion, we weren’t as horrendous in that quarter as I thought at the time.

My concern at the time was that of the 4 goals we had at half time, 3 came in the space of 2 minutes. It was a struggle to score, and we were very sloppy with the ball. Some of the scrubbed kicks, particularly into the forward line reeked of players rushing due to the pressure.

But, what gave hope was that the difference was only 21 points, which as we know isn't a lot these days.

Just watched the third quarter again. I cannot believe how little attention Jacks tap to dusty for the open goal has got. I've thought about this a few times and then I get distracted by little things, like flags, Pickett, margaritas and that. Fair dinkum, it was one of the best pieces of play I've ever seen Jack flew against 3 Geelong players, 3! was going for the tap a long way out, the opposition players were trying to spoil a mark, not stop a tap. Jack with absolute sublime smarts, strength and timing, has beaten 3 geelong defenders to tap the ball to Dusty on a platinum platter. It happened right in front of me at the ground and I just assumed the commentators would be in raptures. But no, no mention, none.. Just "great goal Dusty"etc. Dunno if the radio was onto it. But on telly, zero. amazing play, amazing, and amazing stupidity for the TV commentators to not realise it.

The 3rd Q against Geelong was the best Q we played this year, IMO.
Knew we had the game and grand final wrapped up after that display.

It was one of the items that Kelly Underwood brought up in her interview with Jack in the Fox post-game show.

Another thing about it is that the player who kicked it to Riewoldt, Short, actually gathers the ball in the back-line, just short of the wing, a few steps, and launches it from just forward of the wing. How long is that kick? 60 metres? From the back-line, kick, tap, goal from point blank in the middle of the goal square. Best example of our efficiency and why we were always winning games despite losing just about every stat.

Absolutely. That by Rewioldt was one of the best pieces of tap on play I've ever seen.

I just finished watching the replay of this game for the first time since the game itself.
Geelong dominating the 2nd quarter was overplayed.
It’s great to think Geelong are going all in again in 2020. One less team to worry about.

We may (justifiably) be poking a bit of fun but in hindsight they were the best team we played in the finals and that really should have been the Grand Final.
Perhaps we dodged a couple of bullets in Collingwood and West Coast, but that doesn't alter the fact that Geelong were the only team to give us a real test in the finals.
Notwithstanding the age of their list, we need to remember that.

Just read this thread for first time. Jeez we have some moron posters that should be ashamed to ever post again. Game day threads contain the worst of PRE - they used to be funny when Scotty was around but now it’s just imbeciles all round.

Yeh it’s my favourite play of the year. And the moment I knew we would win that night. It’s a thing of beauty.
