Game Day RD 17 - Tigers V Suns

My enthusiasm for this week is pretty much non existent after the last 2 losses that should've been wins, and the injuries.

My enthusiasm for the rest of the season is also pretty much non existent at this point as well.

Same here. If Dusty goes to Sydney and we wind up paying him to play for them that’d about do me.

it was noticeable we didnt really push back after the last centre bounce.
Broad started on the wing at that last bouce, but didnt seem real sure what he was meant to be doing.
On the coaches this one. Surely they have drilled players what the go is in a close finish protecting a lead. Or maybe not. Standards have slipped from the top down!

Hopefully a big win against Norf reignites the passion.

Yep I hear you; The Geelong game was like being in a horrible car accident, and then the Gold Coast game was like the ambulance that was rushing you to hospital skidding off the road and hitting a tree.

I think I want to stay off the road now.

Just a lazy three options for Day. We pretty much should have had all 18 players in the Suns forward half at this stage.
We certainly lose our structure big time when the heat comes back on us this year. Oppo sides swarm like a plague of locusts n we merely end up with half a dozen or so blokes just shuffling through the corridor hoping the oppo stuff up a possession rather than ever being in one on one position all over the ground n working hard to contest every disposal.

Yep, compare this to the 2020 PF, we knew how to defend in that last quarter. We had lots of players back, even Lynch took a mark at half back. Why weren't they doing the same on Sunday?

Yep, this lack of structure, arrogance, highest free kick count against, highest 50m penalties against in the AFL and most 50m penalties resulting in goals (which follows of course) can be summarised in just 3 words...Lack of Discipline. And who should take the blame? Dimma. Signs of it last year as well.

When George missed the open goal, then some Suns fans got up to leave in front of me, I thought, 'we're gone'. But the last 2 minutes were a horrorshow, the short 50, what was he thinking?, the grimes dropped mark, but this was just shocking, I was at the game in the perfect vantage point to survey this as it panned out, time stood still, protecting a 4 point lead, seconds to go, and there are loose men everywhere.

We literally turned a five goal win into a loss.

Bad kicking is bad football. Don’t play consistently bad footballers.

We won flags with these free kick counts I don't care about that but 50s from the stand rule and dissent are costing goals and games. The only player dropped for a 50 was Caddy I think.
The team hasn't made the adjustment in 2021 to STAND now we are worst at dissent.

Just watched last two minutes again. How the hell are the mids not man on man at the centre bounce. Why didn’t we ice the clock ? Why was Miller kicking out at the death ? Why didn’t Georgie give the handball to cucumber?
Firstly I would also ask if JR8 should have been penalised for 'unrealistic' in a marking attempt where he got hands to the ball? What did Miller actually do for the free past the centre? Ump called hold when it appeared it was a perfectly legit side-shove? But, of course, you could absolutely bet that the umps would jump onboard any sniff of a GC comeback. Our fault from allowing it from 40 pts up.

Then, further to your Qs re our players: how could captain Grimesy choose this moment to drop a chest-mark - Auskick 101? At the death, Broady completely fails to make a contest with Day, losing his feet to concede a virtual uncontested mark - only had to block/spoil it over the bl for a stoppage. Finally, what on earth was KMac doing, then running in too late to have any impact but leaving Anderson completely free, whether it was his man or not?

All hard to believe.

Yep. Too many questions and if you look at most moves in that last quarter, it's like it was scripted in some way. Very strange.

Have the football gods aligned against now ... as a reversal for all our amazing achievements in recent years? Even the injury occurrences seem ordained to destroy our chances - Lynch in Q1 after 10m (after missing a gettable goal, of course, that would have won the game), then not one but both rucks getting damage that hurt us in the CBs and clearances. Plus Ross going out late. Dusty a hammy just when hitting form. Balta not recovering fast.

Plus McCrae goes to the skunks and performs miracles; clubs get key players back from LT injury/suspension just in time for us e.g. Walker at Crows; now the Roos sack coach just in time to play us next game with interim coach.

You couldn't script all this. The signs of cosmic intervention are all there.

For a 2nd time in a row. Also happened when Shaw took over from Scott and at the Dump in 2019 and we lost. Maybe that "Richmondy" term is really a virus that's returned onto us.

Weird.

i was listening to the radio call ,so really couldn't tell a lot
do you think Nank off ? 10 min mark of last qtr , already used the sub
coupled with Soldo thumb , did that contribute to the chaos ?

Yep. Very strange snake. I wonder if Castagna's cardinal sin really drained the guys and built up anxiety into them.

We have been slapped in 'over the back' goals.
We copped 2 against Sydney, we copped a couple against Geelong. it happens again on the weekend. We blamed Cibcus for not punching the right way against Geelong, but what happened on Saturday, 3 go up all of them miss it and Chol has 3 weeks to kick it off the ground and the last bit of play, it was like GC were handing a dry footy in dry conditions, where we were slipping over (Edwards on the wing, Tarrant in the back line) and fumbling like under12's.
Sam Day game won them the game. He was involved in about 5 plays in the 2nd half that resulted in scores.
Castagna fked up, but Edwards, Ralphsmith, Short, Baker, Grimes, Broad, Graham also fked up.
It was a great win for GC, but it was a massive choke by us.
And its becoming a huge issue now
You could throw in Carlton into this too. If Newnes kick wasn't touched, we would be saying the same about that game too.
