GAME DAY R19 Tiges V Hawks

Mini is George Costanza when he starts doing the opposite of everything he has ever done. He would be walking on air at the moment, what a win!

Granted the coach made two moves , but it fell on the leaders across the field and they all lifted.

And whatever was injected into Rioli’s foot, not for the first time in his coaching stint has ‘Lazarus Rioli” come back to provide that crucial intercept gather and run through the midfield chain that resulted in a goal (?).

No vendetta . Watched it
Played average . Having possessions doesn’t mean you have played a good game champ . Fell over 3 times in first half . Suggest you go and watch the replay on VFL.Com AU
Has a long way to go unfortunately
Only player in the mix for senior selection in the VFL is Cumberland .
Maurice unfortunately lacks confidence and touch at the moment , he needs to practice his craft in the VFL and have a month of good footy
Disagree with me all you like
That’s why he got dropped
That’s almost the most positive post I have read from you and even then you have to run him down. I watched the game, as did a lot of others. I thought it was great to see him getting a kick and getting a bit of confidence back.
You just don’t like him
By the way sending him back to the vfl, playing him on the ball for a month is exactly what I posted last week. We agree on that, you are just late to the party.

Awesome win
Coach made the moves to ignite the comeback
Vlaustin down forward huge tick
Coulthard, quick efficient , but more important didn’t soil his shorts

Great debut
Kid can play

My eyes might be playing tricks on me, but I think I saw a first gamer today with;
Pace
Kicking skills
And football IQ.
What’s going on in the recruiting department?
Has the penny finally dropped?
Amazing what you can do in the mid season draft when you stick to basic attributes in a player.
Over to you Matthew Clarke.
More of the same required.

Got no issues with the kid
Actually met him several times “ outside footy “ .

Well that was a strange one. I was very unwell yesterday but made it to the game today. Was regretting the decision to go for most of the afternoon.

Very lacklustre effort for the first 3 quarters. To be fair, Hawthorn were doing a good run and carry game, they had options when in trouble and their disposals to team mates were miles above ours. At one point I was sitting there thinking our players should watch what Hawthorn were doing, passing to a moving player, now there's an idea.

We are in trouble in the middle. When we do get a centre clearance it is generally scrappy, just don't seem to have any system in the middle. Other teams get the ball and have options outside with a bit of space, why can't we do that?

I noticed a few times, only a few because Hawthorn rarely missed, how our player kicking our from a behind simply had no options. It was a case of run and kick it to the wing because no-one was giving them an option. A moving option to create space would be a novel idea, why can't we do that?

The last quarter was a lot better. Still lucky to come out with the win. Being in the crowd when Bakes put us ahead was fantastic. We had all the momentum and managed to peg back a substantial lead (and even hold on to it for the last couple of minutes), was well done in the end. Still, can't expect to win playing like crap for 3 quarters.

The umpiring was the usual mess. So many decisions made with diametrically opposing interpretations. Player gets tackled before they get the ball, free against them for holding the ball they never possessed, seconds later another player gets the ball takes a few steps, tackled, drops it, ball up. Player gets head ripped off, no free, seconds later another player gets wind burn from a hand going in proximity to their shoulder, free kick. It truly is a joke. That one where Riewoldt got dragged away from the marking contest out in the open where not only 4 umpires should have seen it, but the crowd in all parts of the stadium saw exactly what happened, yet no free - that was truly farcical and really sums up the incompetence of the umpires. They are a joke.

Just on a few of the players: Coulthard looked good: run, carry, skills - how refreshing is that? Thought Miller showed a bit in patches, needs to put it together for more of the game. Ross is improving, he improves at a glacial pace, but glaciers move faster these days so could turn out well. The defence leaked a lot but our uncompetitiveness at clearances did us no favours.

Plenty of criticism when we picked him instead of a tall Tetley. I understood that criticism, we desperately needed a tall.
We did also need a small forward of course.
He was a real recruiters choice, same as picking him this week. Plucked from obscurity really and showed glimpses in the vfl but never really lit up a game.
Picked on potential or just because they saw “something” in him.

I’ll say it again: it’s hard to have respect for AFL umpires. Each week just fundamental, obvious, clear and blatant frees that they “miss”.

58,000 people can see that blatant free on Jack, hundreds of thousands at home watching on tv, the commentators …but the 4 umpires in the thick of the action ? Nup.

At best, outright incompetence. At worst, outright cheating.

Maybe the umpires would have had more success trying to *smile* us in the last quarter if they’d bought us dinner and movie first. We are after all, a classy club.

Exactly what I posted too Sin!

Give the kid another 3 or so games in the midfield.

He might just be a mid who we are trying to make this out of him, which he may not be.

Last year he showed the opposite so what do I know.

But.. it was pleasing today.

It’s the start.

Can’t remember who it was but one of the coaches last year said they thought MOju may end up more a mid than a forward.
I feel like the hype around his pressure and chasing almost stalled his development.

Bang. We smashed west coke and just beaten Hawks. Who’s next on the list?
Anyone feel like we are building?

Four if not five red time goals today. Never want to hear again we are the only team that consistently gives them up.

Awesome crowd to be in at the end. High fiving strangers.

I tell my kids not to worry about the umpiring as it always equals out eventually, can’t control it, etc. FMD, today I told them they are cheats and they should be ashamed of the poor effort they put in today. Worst umpiring I have seen for years.
