(Rosy, sorry for posting here. I know there is a technical section just thought a few more eyes might see it here first.
Happy for you to move it, if you deem it appropriate. Ok that's the housekeeping out of the way!)

Brotherhood (and sisterhood! ;D) I need your help.

My mate's got Foxtel. We have a great arrangement. I take over grog we watch the replay and then before going home I get a copy of the game on disc. Great!

Well maybe not.

Recently my mate has upgraded his Foxtel package (don't ask to what or how as I don't have Foxtel).

Anyway the upshot is he can no longer dub copies like he used to. It just records to the hard drive. So I can't have my own copy of our first win. When the Foxtel guy came over he was at work and his wife forgot to ask about dubbing.
Does anyone out there in the greater Tigerland community know what I am talking about and if so, is there a way to copy the game off the hard drive and onto disc?
I can't understand how upgrading your Foxtel leads to no dubbing options.
Would appreciate if anyone out there can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

I got sucked in on that one too. I searched the internet for ways to get around the blocking of dubbing and failed.

I'm with Austar but I think it's the same issue as Foxtel. I signed up mainly for the ability to record HD. Foxtel falsely advertise that their box can record Free To Air HD channels. I sent the box back and got the old version, but it still left me $100 out of pocket. I'm pursuing Austar through VCAT because of the false advertisement.

Just set your digital camera up against the TV, tell your wife to be quite and start recording...
Then transfer from digital camera to computer to VHS to Disc..

I'd have to edit the beer can opening and swearing at the umpire noises in the background ;D

Funny this should come up, was wondering the same thing. I looked at the specs on the foxtel website. Can't you get a scart plug to connect to the recorder? It looks like it has the same connections as the box i have now.

On a side note, they know how to waste time and money. I'm getting mine upgraded to IQ for free, but if i want the other boxes I have to be upgraded as well, it's $100 per box. But they have a free promotion where you can get your other boxes upgraded for free if you already have IQ. I said couldn't they install (meaning pull the plug on the old box and put it into the new one) the others when i get the mainone done. NO. That's a separate job. Have to book another date ::)

He is, that is why we haven't had a reply from him on this thread :hihi

It would be funny if he gave it a go and then played the DVD back when all finished.. "Hello everyone and welcome to HEY HEY its Saturday" :rofl :rofl

Gday mate, im not going to be much help BUT if your mate has IQ2 it can definitely be done as my mate makes copies sometimes however I believe the trick to it is you need a PC to hook up to the IQ box instead of a VCR. Its quite a process really and it doesn't sound like much fun but it can definitely be done with the help of a PC and then you burn a DVD disk.

How about just paying the $30 for the "Name a Game" version and ;Dcut your losses...that win was worth paying for!!

Thanks guys for all the suggestions.

There certainly are alot of "Techo" heads out there.

I'll have a chat with my mate and see if he can try any of these ideas.

Of course can buy the game on video but have been spoilt in recent times with getting a copy dubbed for me.

Wasn't an issue till Rd10 as we hadn't won anything! :hihi

Thanks again.

Dont bother with all that IQ tripe. Next time you need a new DVD recorder, make sure you get one with a hard drive.
I can watch and tape and make zillions of copies of any TV, til the cows (or TIGES) come home.Have been doing it for years.

That's true. The only limitation that I can think of with this set up is the lack of Foxtel HD content. I currently use the PC with video capture for any recordings I want to keep (which is rare).

If you're successful I might have to get you to represent me in an upcoming VCAT dispute I'm about to lodge. :help

An option if you have a handy cam is to connect the camera to the TV (via the output ports) and record directly from the TV onto your video camera. You can then either use a PC to create a DVD from the camera or just plug in your camera directly to your TV for playback.

This is a better option that recording the TV screen as you will get better quaility and only the sound from the TV (not the background noise).
