Footy to Return

All I know for sure is I‘ve completely lost track of how long it’s been since I’ve seen Richmond lose a game.

Feels like years!

On June 13 , we will celebrate a year without a loss (not counting the Marsh series of course).
Remind all of your mates who follow another team of this little fact.

The premier league isn't rushing to get back.
And where the flk are the Americans going to play there hubs in Guam ??
Over 1500 died overnight in the US.
Saw a mention on news tonight EPL is getting organised to restart.....suppose it comes down to your definition of rush.
What is emerging is that not everyone sees footy tha same way. Some see it only as it was until GF Day 2019 and any other version is completely indigestible and prepared to go hungry indefinitely.

Others are prepared to chew a little harder, overlook some of the unpalatable morsels, but fill the belly.

Think AFL Footy will start when interstate travel bans are lifted. . In WA today Premier McGowan lifted a few minor gathering restrictions but WA zone restrictions remain in force. They will be reviewed in two weeks time around the May 09 therefore WA Interstate travel restrictions being lifted is somewhere around 01 June or beyond all going good. To start Hubs before that is SHocking.

I think footballers will prove to be like most people...they will prefer to be employed than unemployed.

And in the real world I think most of us would take our chances being employed on the "front line" than unemployed in the back line.

Call the season off
Absolute garbage trying to get the season up and going
The money they are borrowing will be used on the Hubs . Who is running this circus ?

Ok. This is officially a joke now. The season is done and frankly, good riddance. Could not care less. Emotionally checked out. Also looks like our players were extremely vocal about the ridiculous proposal tabled this afternoon. Good ‘em. The whole thing is a circus as mentioned by others.

what proposal is on the table and seemingly been rejected?

There was an article posted on the AFL website re: the latest hub scenario and it mentioned that RFC players were quite vocal in their concerns during the video conference.

No, all of the ones with kids have already made arrangement with their families to go and they all seem very comfortable with it. But those guys are hungry and want a shot at success, I think the Richmond mindset would be very different in terms of motivation.

Having said that I don't think anyone was thinking about 20 weeks like they mentioned in the media today but personally I'd be very surprised if that is the case.
Wow.....what I wouldn’t give to have ‘success’ in a non-event that is the 2020 season. No thanks :rotfl1

It's a lot easier to say that with a couple of flags under our belt. I reckon I'd be reading different posts if it was 2016.
Yes it is, and No you wouldn’t. The best part of winning a flag is the journey in getting there through the season, the week leading up to the GF and all the fanfare, and once you win it, the reflection stage where you watch replay upon replay of the great day.

What are we trying to do here? Drastically reduced lists composed of players who will & won't play?
Hubs with no home ground advantage or every advantage? Shortened games?
It is starting to look farcical.

The main point of difference here remains that people are isolated in a pandemic without a vaccine. Health is the major stumbling block. We're in a State of Emergency FFS.
It's not the same as people being away for work or tennis players who are away OS. These people can return in a crisis quickly & can easily create support groups around loved ones.
Nobody has ever been through anything like this.

I understand the desire, and financial need, to resume the season, but it is looking farcical at this stage.

Shortening the game and reducing list sizes is something the AFL want to slip through and we should be vigilant about trying to stop them. Why do they want to change the game every second minute? It seems to be quite popular as it is.

The smaller lists will mean no reserves/VFL. So you won't have fringe players who are experienced in the game plan. If having unaffiliated state league sides is such a good idea how come West Coast just created a WAFL team a year or two ago? For no apparent reason I suppose.

As Tigers of Old said, we are in a state of emergency, this season might just be a write off.

The idea of a 20 week hub is patently absurd. Put them all in a hub for that long and watch the virus come in and wreak havoc. The hub idea has so many flaws, did people not read that Sports Illustrated article that was linked here? What happens if someone in the hub gets infected and has permanent health issues, or a member of their family gets sick or even dies. Do they sue the AFL?

Not a fan of the hub idea at all. Hopefully the state of emergency is lifted soon and the restrictions are lessened. Then a shortened season running later than usual would still be possible with full length games. Start in June, 16 more rounds, finals in October (ok, maybe Grand Final in November, don't want to give Collingwood the prospect of an October GF!).
