Footy media , love’m or hate’ m ?

He cant. he is contracted.
Yeah, I keep forgetting this. I'd say Snowbourne will just fall on the last minute and hand him over for any pick. They might as well as they've got too much weight on their shoulders on-field and off-field.

Ahh....to be a journalist. There's a real war on this bloke. Club v Media. Latest saying he's walked out on the club.

If he is contracted to one club, is it allowed for him to take a pay cut to move clubs? I wouldn’t think it was. His new club could pay him less but his original club would have to make up the balance of his contract and I can’t see the dees doing that for nothing in return

Pretty sure the Moggies turned that Bowes blokes very expensive 2 year contract into a not very expensive 4 year contract. Overall $ might have remained the same but he's gunna work twice as long to earn them.

Blair should try another strategy to get the Rioli trade moving. He should go to Dan and mention to him that it is now more likely a trade won't be achieved and give him the preseason start dates.

Then over the weekend Dan (or his GF) contact his manager and Hardwick
I'd already tagged rioli in a tweet, saying that I'd bring him his jumper at training, yesterday. :-D

Cameron and Co have been persuaded by the media.
When the news broke that Rioli wanted to go to Gc. Pick 6 and 13 were marked as the value in return.
Since 🦜 and *smile* have absolutely destroyed us over the last 2 weeks.
Now 6 is way overs for Rioli and Bolton anything between 10-15 is adequate.
It's *smile*, if we don't get what we want both need to attend training on the 15 November.

That deal will forever boggle the mind. Bloke literally took a 50% paycut & the mob that got him won the Trade by the length of the Flemington str8.

Isn’t his contract until 2030 or similar? Can’t see how they can do the same with him in that regards. Would make it a 10 year contract wouldn’t it?

Yep, Clarries got a long expensive contract at Smelbourne. Pretty damn sure there's nothing to stop a player taking a pay cut in a new deal at another club though.

I would think a contracted player signing at another club for less money would undermine the salary cap.

I’m not sure if the original contract terms have to be honoured.
Like when Treloar was traded, WB paid x amount and Collingwood had to top the remainder up. I realise it was to get Treloars big contract off collingwoods books, but the length and $amount had to remain the same. I think Stephenson to #lilnorf was the same.
It might be able to be renegotiated for longer and an increase, but the original terms must be met first.
( I might have to look at the CBA)

Hallelujah about time someone in the media isn’t against us.
This bloke said it would be a mistake not to pay up for a player of Bolton's quality.
Who doesn't agree???Screenshot_20241012_133134_AFL.jpg

It’s a contract and like any contract it can be torn up with the agreement of both parties. There is absolutely no reason why Oliver and MFC could not agree to cancel the contract now but they would both have to agree.
