As certain so-called football experts (affiliated with the AFL payroll master and toe the very questionable and reactive AFL propaganda line – you know who they are!) dance over the perceived grave of the Tigers, there are a couple of things to consider.
1/- What is being exposed every week is the obvious connection between hyped up $#@&*@it that passes for football journalism that is a blight upon the game and most supporters enjoyment of the game today.
2/- The AFL needs to be told in no uncertain terms that the ongoing persecution and slandering of certain footballers is a very dangerous road to go down.
With regards point 2, the RFC needs to have a heart-to-heart with the AFL legal department and tell them to put a clamp on the hysterical, never-ending persecution of certain Richmond players with outlandish character assassinations, that have influenced umpires, the general football public, and more seriously the MRP.
We have laws in this country to protect individuals from defamation, slander and character attacks that impact directly upon a person’s work place and performance, and the prejudices they may experience because of, in this case, the slanderous writing and behaviour of the football media.
It would be very easy for a lawyer to show the outrageous hypocrisy afforded to Tom Lynch whose character is constantly attacked by the same few in the football media, who remain quiet in the face of exact or worse behaviour by other players at other clubs. In legal terms it would not be difficult to mount a defamation case against those football media personalities (they are not journalists!), for the unhinged and deliberately provocative stories and arguments they attack Lynch with on a regular basis.
A quiet word in the appropriate ear in AFL house by the RFC armed with a clear and precise legal argument to protect their players from a biased media is required. Quiet but very firm and you watch the hyena’s back off when they get a tap on the shoulder by a very nervous AFL.
