Footy media , love’m or hate’ m ?

I think it’s fair to say that the general consensus from most supporters and past players is that the game at the moment is in disarray and am shocked by your suggestion that our dissatisfaction arises from the fact that we are losing atm.

It's easy to have it as the general consensus when opposing views are dismissed as being AFL shills.

I don't think it's about losing, I think it's about winning. We've had a lot of success and now we are stuck in a bit of a nothing zone. Win a few, lose a few, not really contending, not really rebuilding. Too soon to get frustrated, too soon to get excited. Something has to fill that void and I think being frustrated with the game and the AFL is part of that for a lot of people.

Yeah what has happened to Warner. Has he been muzzled?

Don't think heard from him since he cleaned up the sports writers awards in March.

They must be the muppets on here that Carter refers to

Even when we were winning the AFL was rubbish. Disgraceful organisation full of corruption.

Some people like the AFL. Some people like the CCP. Some people like caviar. Some people like the smell of a dog's fart. Some people like Donald Trump. Some people like eating chalk.

AFL Media will try and influence you to like them too.

According to BT doing the TV telecast, at the start of the first Quarter the crowd was still streaming in!
Oh yeah, don't tell me it's raining when your pissing on my leg BT, I can see!
It wasn't packed.
Considering that it was the 1st genuine match up between the 2 in more then 10 yrs.
That was a very ordinary turn up.
80k.

The Media have to suck up to the AFL to get accreditation.
How can you expect honest journalism with this situation, it is farcical.
The AFL media unit is a joke a bunch of Spin Doctors.
The AFL are so insecure they do whatever it takes to gag critics eg Grant Thomas.

And obviously suck the occasional gullible supporter in

About 7500 less than the biggest home and away crowd ever between the two clubs on a Sunday afternoon in a pandemic.

Hardly ordinary.
Very ordinary.
Shouldve been like us in 1993 fosters cup GF.
75,000 inside and 15,000 still waiting to get in.
Crowds are gone.

It improved their coverage markedly when they turfed the segment. I don’t see why they feel the need to reintroduce this cringeworthy thing that seemed to make everyone involved, except for BT, uncomfortable. Does this also mean BT will be back doing Friday nights, instead of Sunday afternoons where he’s been relegated? If so it’s another bad move.

Roaming BT is the dissent rule of commentators: Annoying, unnecessary and detrimental to Aussie Rules.

The trouble with RB is that there’s no no pre arranged questions so BT has to think of them on his feet and it’s not his forte so it’s questions like “how was the win?”, “who’s this with you tonight?”, “what’s that you’re putting on your legs” and insightful stuff like that. I mean it’s harmless fluff but maybe that’s what’s it’s meant to be, dunno.

Given the time slot after games, you wouldn’t think the segment was aimed at 12yr olds. And yet that seems to be their target market

Don't forget there are some of us who actually agree. Personally, I'm really enjoying the footy and seeing some great games.

Pure speculation, but had we not won any flags in the past few year and were flying now, I don't reckon there would be as much complaining about the game. I bet Melbourne, Fremantle, Carlton and St Kilda people haven't got too many issues.
There is some truth in what you say no doubt.

But in reality there is also a lot of dissatisfaction with the rules/adjudicating. And even some of the AFL's biggest sycophants (eg the OTC crew) have turned a little on issues like dissent. David King has really nailed the fan position on these subjects.

And clearly there are many like myself who haven't watched a full opposition game for the whole year. In my case I would have once watched all games if had the opportunity. Now I can barely get through a whole tigers game. Is it all because I've been sated by success - I don't think so. My main beef was the stand rule, the biggest single change to the game in my lifetime, but combined with confusion over dissent/sling tackles/prohibited contact we've got a sanitised game that is not what I grew up with and loved.

I don’t agree TBR.

For many years I was one of those people who would go to Richmond games and watch other games on TV, not all of them but I was a regular watcher. I watch virtually nothing except Richmond games now because I get so frustrated with the rules and interpretations of rules. That has nothing to do with whether we are winning.

I am not alone, there are others I know who are the same. AFL to me now is Richmond only, the rest is interest in the scores.

I am not against all rule changes, for instance I like 6.6.6. but to me whilst I might understand the reasons for some the AFL has gone too far, too quick. Their solution is worse than the problem in some cases and in the end they have made a hard game to umpire almost impossible. I just can’t watch it because i get too annoyed and frustrated.

The AFL has to listen to the fans or they will kill the game

Just on the media I listened to Brian Taylor’s interview on the talking tigers podcast. I’m not BT fan as a commentator but the interview is great. Well worth a listen. On the website
