Tall, long-kicking wingmen, hard-running, desperate defenders, combative midfielders, high-marking forwards, all with mullets and comb-overs flapping in the wind on a blustery sunny day in September is the stuff of legends. By comparison, the possession game is caca.I have watched footy since I was a kid, I go back to Royce Hart and Billy Barrot.
To me the beautiful game, the way I like to see it played, is the way we played it for 4 years. Footy skill punctuated with intense pressure, tackling of the highest level, footy with muscle. Aussie rules is a game of intensity, power and skill it is not a game of basketball.
The stand rule, the tackle that is a bit rough, the lack of reward for the person playing the contested ball, those things aren’t my footy.
It is why I have turned off the game so much
What Geelong plays is pretty footy, not beautiful footy
