Essendon = Entitlement

McKay of North Melbourne nominates Essendon.

What the hell am I missing here?

Don't get me wrong, he's a great get for the Bombers. A massive upgrade on Zerk Margaret Thatcher.

But Essendon?

I reckon North is about to bust loose. Seriously. A young but promising list. And gifts coming from the AFL like it's Christmas time.

And, from what I hear, Hawthorn and Sydney were McKay's other suitors.

Sure either/or/any were more logical options?

I mean, how could you look at Essendon and say, yes! That's the kind of club I want to join. What sort of career does the lad want?

And what's Essendon's pitch?

Well, our midfield is s'house, so you'll get lots of touches of the footy!

Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire. Geezus!

Welcome to the Bombers, you big doofus.

$$$$$$$$$

McKay's done Sweet FA at Norf. And apparently they're opening up the retirement village for Goldstein as well. Essendumb by name and nature

Not sure of the (sort of) hype. He's a big unit but not sure he is actually much good.
I’ve watched him (Ben McKay) a bit over the years and reckon he’s become a decent key defender these last couple of years
Theoretically I wouldn’t have minded him at Richmond - but he’s simply not worth $800k per season (as has been suggested)
Essendon is welcome to him at that money

Things are changing at the Bombers first it only took 20 odd years to work out Dudoro is the greatest dud to be involved in the AFL and now “ bing” they have realised to get rid of Shiel the most overrated player, possibly of all time …..lol have a guess who wants him …….lol the Saints , Norf must have the salary cap room ……lol spud clubs

The minimum salary cap rule forces *smile* teams to be paying 95% of the salary cap so because of AFL / AFL PA negotiations and those rule they have to massively overpay some players.

North has to pay 95% of what recent premiership teams were paying their list ... It doesn't make sense.

I think it's a real force to keep you lower on the ladder. When the overpayed blokes get replaced / have to drop their salary they would crack the sads. I imagine you get forced to overpay the young kids coming in and hope they become stars.

Yep. Absolutely ridiculous that a club, stone motherless last with a team of duds and has beens has to pay 95% of the same sum paid by a back to back side premiership side filled with stars in their prime and ready to go for 2 more. Being forced to overpay for non-performers is utterly nonsensical.

Yeah Dudoro, what an idiot. Only has 1 strategy, treat every negotiation as zero-sum rather than win-win, offer peanuts for players he wants, demand stupid exhorbidant prices for players he wants to sell or want out. Missed Bobby Hill because he refused to make a decent offer, thats just one recent clanger. I'd like to see a record of his deals over his time, trade success and failures, ones he missed though poor negotiating, I don't think it would make for good reading for an Essendon supporter.

What do you mean! He got Dylan Shiel and only had to give up two first-rounders!
offered a future second for Hill then refused to budge. Chuck in a third, which would have been a bargain at the time and daylight robbery now in hindsight, and the deal probably got done. What a genius.

Its not only what he does, its how he does it that says 'goose' to me.
