Essendon = Entitlement

Let’s not have this argument here; it’s fruitless. Everyone’s heard each other’s points, but no one’s listening. At the end of the day, this is a football forum. We have serious trading to do, and Essendon to laugh at.

But if you follow the “If you’re against X, just don’t do X” argument, we’d still have slavery/*smile*-fighting/littering etc etc. As someone else quoted above, evil persists where good people do nothing.
"Let's not argue about it, let's just agree that opposing abortion is like opposing slavery. Both are evil." Yeah, nah.

If you seek to impose your will over someone else's body, newsflash: you're the evil one.

That's an absurd false equivalence. The reason why Thorburn and religious types are against both abortion and homosexuality (and sex outside marriage etc) is because of the religious obssession with human sexuality and their need to try and control it. The religious obsession with sex as is not the same as fighting for the aboliltion of slavery.

People have been having sex/sex outside marriage/gay sex/abortions for pretty much the whole of human cultural history.

I note you have no comment on Thorburn and his church's attitudes of denying abortion to victims of rape/incest.

None of what she is doing is right, and she still won't keep her job past the next election - trailing by 33% to Labour now.
Depends on your flavour of politics but reducing the tax burden is critical to growing a stagnating economy but she chose the socialist model of big government tax and spend(waste)

How do these psychos sleep at night? How do they keep getting high paying gigs?

He was forced out by poor management and governance and irregularities including money laundering and fees for no service exposed by a royal commission. He resisted for a while, and tried to get his his $2 mill bonus, not his pay, he got that, his bonus. An unprecedented shareholder revolt stopped it thank goodness.

He has a hide like a rhino. The crazy right wing christianity is not surprising.

But why did Essendon, or anyone, hire him to do a REVIEW? Call me crazy, but I would have thought someone you would hire to do a review would be a proven performer with rock solid ethics and bona fides? Mates at the club or the AFL I suppose, as usual. But again, how is the hide of the bloke? I've been sacked and disgraced so I suppose I'll go into the review caper, gotta be a few mates around who can throw me some gigs.

Then he sees an opportunity and applies for the CEO job, while doing the review, like a rat up a drainpipe, and the club goes for it!

You can't make this up, but at the same time it is perfectly predictable.

This is the AFL people. Corrupt incompetent privileged psycho out-of-touch boys club.
putting his views to the side, his actions while heading up one of the big 4 banks is the real issue . the royal commission finding don't paint a very good governance picture of him and everyone knew he was knee deep in some very questionable behaviour ........and he wanted his bonus of 2 mil after getting the ass ....bloody hell more front that Myers .but we need to be very careful here ...................our own now x president (Peggy) was also named in this royal commission .............but again so were 90% of the top end of town who were or are working in the banking superannuation industry , it was ........a who's who's of banking governance in OZ were named .and it was not a good picture they painted .disgraceful really.........the commissioner didn't say it .but the general theme/out coming out of the royal commission was .' Snouts In The public trough

NAB met probe with super gouge

The trustees of NAB’s superannuation funds signed off on a deal which allowed the bank to gouge tens of thousands of super accounts by paying interest rates on cash deposits at a fraction of actual market rates, just days after the royal commission into banks was called in December last year.Documents lodged with the Royal Commission and obtained by The Australian show NAB arm Nulis Nominees (Australia) director Peggy O’Neal signed an agreement whereby money in low-risk “cash” investments would be invested with NAB but earn interest well below the rate NAB offers to the public.

Its the thing that always surprises me, smart capable people that consistently refute science. It's almost as if they have a blind spot in their critical thinking process.

A bit like those that can't see the umpires are biased against the tigers. The evidence is there, some just can't see it.

Well played. :clap2

Must admit I've always equated thinking the umpires cheat to believing in god.

Wrong.

She is breaking the rules of even conservative politics - they wanted to borrow 72 BILLION pounds to fund tax cuts for people earning over GBP 150K in a market of rampant inflation. She abolished the cap on bankers' bonuses. No tax cuts for middle income. She's going to cut spending so at least you'll be happy about that. This along with paying oil/gas companies billions to subsidise heating expenses, a tactic even the CEO of Shell thinks is idiotic.

The Bank of England had to buy GPB 65 BILLION of government bonds last week to stabilise the pound and stop the pension funds from crashing. That's freakin' dumb policy by Truss and Kwateng, and the markets told them so.

What she's doing is neither sound fiscal policy, not conservative policy, and definitely not socialism - except of course maybe giving billions to oil companies.

PS trickle-down economics doesn't work.

If tolerating intolerance equals tolerance then democracy has eaten itself.
Karl Popper, we should tolerate anything except intolerance, otherwise as you say, things fall apart. More suited to the philosophy thread but relevant here.

Found the quote, onya google:

"If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them." Karl Popper gets an honorary degree from the University of Canterbury in 1973

Looks like Barham's not going to last long either. Turmoil at this club is so bad that even Guy and Andrews have to prick at each other including Buttonhead who criticised against Thorburn's treatment.
