Hi there Tania.

I've seen the some of the collectables your mother has kept.

Hope you've still got the 1934 Grand Final dinner menu that has been signed by the entire premiership team. It would be worth an absoulute fortune.

Cheers

Give you father my best regards.

Yes, I recall my father spoke very fondly of him as did other old Tiger supporters.  From memory he played in a couple of other GF - but we lost them!   :'(

There is another PREnder who claimed to be a relative but I can't remember his nick.  If he sees your post he might contact you.
Howdy Roar34.

It was myself who said I knew someone who was related to Eric Zschech.

Tania's father used to do my tax returns.

Hi Tania,

i've known the name all my life, having  looked through  all the premiership teams - it's immortal as is every other tiger premiership name. i didn't know many  other details but have more understanding now

cheers and respect

Warmest welcome to one carrying the bloodlines of RFC legends from the great years of the feared and reveared tigers!!!!
Well done Kudos to u Tania and welcome to the heartland of the manic, loyal, loving passionate, and indignant tiger fans.

I havent heard of Eric Zschech but i can remember a player
by the name of Bruce Tshirpig. He played in the early 70's.
Does anyone know how many games he played.

Sorry, Nwonash, I got it terribly wrong - must be Fourpenny Dark taking control.

Sorry to get your hopes up, Tania, about finding a long lost relly, that is - it was only Nwonash. But, hey, he's harmless and his heart is in the right place. Just takes a little bit of getting used to this crew on PRE.

Nice to see Shandy get a mention!

Yes Tania I have heard about your grandad often! Some of the old timers I've spoken to in the past (including my Dad) spoke about him very highly. He was apprently a highly skilled and elusive player, very fair and importantly very good! In those days you had to be to get in the Richmond team of course. he played in a famous centreline. Judkins, Zschech, Geddes were the Bourke Barrot and Clay of their time and in fact played as a line far longer than those boys.

Your pride is well justified.

Can I suggest you go down to the Richmond museum and talk to Ron Reiffel about him? I haven't been there for a while but I'm sure there are lots of things relating to your grandad (and definitely to his era) and I'm equally sure Ron can give you lots of stories about those days.

I knew this question would be asked sooner or later!!!!! My husband is a made Collingwood supporter and member and the only way I could get a cat was if he was black and white and he could be called Buckley!!!!! Unfortunately I have no choice but don't worry we are going to get a dog and she is going to be a Tiger!!!!

Very impressive!

My memories of these players:

1. Wayne Shand - HBF - Essex Heights had been a source of Tiger recruiting in the 70s. Wayne was one of the last of the Essex Heights boys recruited.

2. Matthew Wall - small? - serviceable small, Tigers tried to make a rover out of him. He just didnt have enough skill, pace, ability to make it.

3. Dan Foley - hosted Dan the evening of the '82 GF with Ironmonger. Dan was a good CHF, but the Tiges had paid big money and wanted a star. The Tiges had forgotten that a key forward is only as good as the midfield he leads to.

4. Mick McKenna - Footscray reject, rover who couldnt get a kick, came to Tiges with Chris Burton.

5. Ian Scrimshaw - unfairly omitted from 1980 GF side. Broke his heart, deserved selection over Daryl Freame.

6. Steven Pirrie - brilliant junior FB struck down with wrecked knee. Never the same afterwards.

7. Andy Preston - very quick & tough winger/hbf from Geelong. Never really worked hard at training, ergo broke down constantly with leg injuries.

How is the cat's hamstrings?

Ha, ha.  Very good.

And by the way TT, it's really easy to dye white to yellow.  And under your breath you could whisper "Tucky" to it.

Yes I often make Buckley watch the replay's on Fox Footy (Tiger footy at the moment) so he can see a real team!!!

If anything I would whisper "Richo" :)

Thanks for the kind words you say about my Grandfather. I think I will go down to the museum and see what I can find. My Grandfathers brother keeped a scrap book of him and Mum has it now - it is amazing some of the things that we have. Mum has the invitiation to the 1934 best and fairest night. The meal is a crack up - they had pea & Ham soup for entree, roast of the day for main and Hot Apple Pie for desert. The best thing is that my Grandfather got every player who played in that winning GF to sign the back of the invite - I think it would be worth a fortune these days!!!!
