Hi Tiger fans,

My name is Tania Roche and I have just joined this website!!!!!

Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of Eric Zschech????

He is my Grandfather and he played over 100 games for the Tigers.   He wore number 25 and played in the centre.   He played in the 1932 & 1934 winning Premierships for the Tigers and got best on ground in the 1934 premiership.  I wear his medal on my chain around my neck with pride everyday.

He was Jack Tidis's best friend and was his best man in his wedding.  He also played a few games with Jack Dyer.  I remember a story that my Mum told me about Jack and my Grandfather.  My Grandfather got hit unfairly by an opposition player and Jack ran up to him and asked "who did it mate" my Grandfather told him and the next minute the opposition player was flat on his back out cold - Jack had absolutely decked him!!!!!

If anyone has heard of him of him, I would love to hear from you!

Go Tigers!!!!

Hello Tania,
I have heard of your Granfather you should be very proud of his efforts in Tiger colours from all reading I have done on the Tigers of this era your granfather was a class act and hit Jack Titus on the chest with many great passes. it is good to see you are a Tiger as well..........

Tania,

I think that you had better fix up the options on your poll.

But, as I said on the other thread, your grandfather was a Tiger Legend who, as a midfielder, was a key factor in Tiger onfield success in his time.

Tania hope you don't mind I edited your poll to have Yes or No options.

Yes, I recall my father spoke very fondly of him as did other old Tiger supporters. From memory he played in a couple of other GF - but we lost them! :'(

There is another PREnder who claimed to be a relative but I can't remember his nick. If he sees your post he might contact you.

My Mum is an only child so I have no idea who would have said they were a relative!!!!

I am wracking my mouth trying to pronounce your grand-dad's surname.

Could you give'us a hand? Phonetically is it Zeck, Shek, Zesh? Sheesh!

Hi Tania, my father told me of Eric and his father told him .I have already told my kids, so Eric is into fourth generation Richmond folklore now.

I moved to the Wimmera about ten years ago (Glenorchy ) and was delighted to find a old tiger fan by the name of George  Pickering. He told me he'd barracked for the tiges since his good mate Eric played there. He was rapt that I knew of Eric. Me being a youngen' and all.

Sadly george has passed away now but he loved the tigers in a warm kind of way...a bit to do with his feelings for Eric I'd say

Tania, great to hear from you! Yes I have heard of your Grandfather. I am a bit older than most of the Prenders and I remember my father talking about him. Your Grandfather is written up in the book "Tigerland", the official history of the Richmond Football Club. There are several team photographs and one showing him on a football card.

According to the book he kicked the first goal in the 1934 Premiership match against Sth Melbourne!

Tania, I am pleased to say hello to a relative of a genuine legend. I heard of Eric Zschech when reading through histories of the Tigers. I remember Jack Dyer mentioned him very fondly as a great player in his last years. Eric was a great centreman in a golden era for the Tigers.
