End of an Era

The tried and true gameplan is no longer workable, we've seen it in the erratic results of this season. It now requires a special effort to win against decent opposition, and that's not repeatable each week.

Need to move on, just not in Friday night's direction.
The problem is our forward line is too defensive, when we push forward the majority of the time. you don't see player's looking for space ,they all seem to huddle together in a zone and wait for crumbs ,thats. why there is a lot of bombing .
I think with the Saints match ,we thought we would just turn up and win ,and really we should of ,but there was a total lack of effort right across the ground .

The Tigers are the premiership team ,you don't just fall off the cliff like that ,l think the Saints game will be our wake up call,as it was against them in 2017

Hardwick almost said as much.

Still think we tried to play very differently to how we normally play.

Yeah, looked that way. But also turned into static, scared football.

I'm not convinced by the three headed monster but it might work if we had an effective ruck. Marlion would have competed better than Chol and young Ryan, although the latter has an excuse. Chol doesn't.

I've been wondering when all the uncertainty of the fixture due to this damn covid problem was going to catch up with us...well maybe it has. Whether games are on or off, late changes to where they will be played (eg. v West Coast), the possibility of hubs again and the subsequent stress on players and their wives/partners especially those with young families, it just may have become too much. Cotch and his wife had a very difficult time last year, esp. with trolls, Jack was uneasy about leaving his family this year and remember Cotch nearly dropped out of the WC game bc his missus was not coping well with the young ones at home. Edwards also has a very young child at home and I'm sure there are more examples within our team of players and their families not coping well this year after what they went through last year. Yes they should all be tough enough to cope with all that but when they chose to be an AFL player they didn't sign up for being away from home for long periods...neither did their partners. 3 cups just could be about their limit until covid is defeated.

we dont even 100% know if we are playing in Gold Coast yet and the fixture is in 55 hours.

Appears the Suns are flying to Melbourne this afternoon and the game will be played here.

And yet the article on the website that shall not be named says that, "Marvel Stadium is now one of the options for the Thursday night game but there is a chance the Suns will return to Queensland and play the match at Metricon."

Becoming a bit farcical.

Look at Brisbane, 4 years at the top, --- 5th year: era fininshed
Hawthorn 4 years at the top, ---- 5th year, era finshed .
Richmond 4 years at the top, --- 5th year, so far struggling

It's the 5th year crash.

You generally write a lot of crap but in the last two weeks you have upgraded to untreated sewerage.

We get it, you think we are suddenly a terrible team.

Ive been on a self imposed footy media ban :) needed a break after that debacle

That game although different scoreline , reminded me a bit of a game we played against Collingwood early 19 ,

Where tactically we just looked beaten , and you sensed the players knew it and they lost faith

And this game you sensed the players in a half hearted way attempted to carry out the gameplan , but they didnt really believe in it

Good post.

You can’t really ask the players to commit to helter skelter pressure and attack over 4 and a half years then ask them to slow things down.

This kind of change is best implemented in the off season.

Best case for us is Dimma walks into the lecture theatre, lifts the new game plan theatrically and tosses it in the bin for a laugh.

“We’re back on, boys. By hook or by crook.”

The next thing Gill and Hocking will probably do is cut the season short like last year and really make sure we cant do any damage.

What i'm saying is new game plan, old game plan, doesn't matter.
we have hit a wall with fatigue.
