End of an Era

I bloody hope the recruiters pick good young players who just maybe step up straight away , rather than what we have at the moment, the youngsters we have don’t look the goods !

True I do have a King *smile*!

Injuries are a pee weak excuse. They don’t impact effort, skill and discipline. Which have been atrocious
No they're not pee weak excuses. History shows that teams with the least injuries through a season generally do much better. Most premiers have a relatively good run with injury. No team can win with the number of injuries the Tigers have had to good players this year.

BS. We’ve had injuries in the past and heaps of them. Never played this poorly though. We were smashed off the park bu 2 of the bottom 4 teams in the comp. U can’t spin that *smile*. It’s un stuffen acceptable

I’m not ready to just call it the end. Can’t bring myself to it. Until we mathematically cannot make it I will believe we can finish in the 8. Even if we get knocked out first game.

Just saw a great tweet from a Dees supporter “ I wish everybody would barrack against my team after it’s 3 premierships “

Exactly. So many times in the bad old days I read people here saying "I wish we were feared and hated again".

Well guess what, we got we wished for and half of you are still bitching and moaning about it.

When you are top, everyone wants to knock you down.

I’m not down with calling it the end of the Tigers era regardless of making the 8 this year or not.

As has been discussed on here, the Tiges are banged up, exhausted, in need of a reset and freshen up. We have draft pics up our sleeve and some dam good players on our list.

Roll on 2022/23

So its ok for others to call me a *smile* and suggest its attached to my head but not ok for me to respond in kind?
I am not impressed with the ‘banter’ on all sides. You are acting like a child and wasting moderators and my time with this behaviour. You are trolling for a response. Take a break.

No that's BS. We had a very good run with injuries comparatively. There were even threads that discussed how well our performance and recovery and medical team had performed. Do some research for a change instead of wasting our time by abusing people. It's not what we:re here for.

Your not worthy to sit in judgement of me u *smile*!
These overpaid hacks as you call them just gave you three premierships in four years. Yet you act like they've invaded your farm and stolen your sheep.
We all get pissed off when we lose, but walk away from the keyboard and act like an adult. You're an absolute disgrace of a supporter. You behave like a cretin, I'll judge you as one.

Agree. We've had injuries in the past but not like this year. 1st pretty much our entire starting midfield, then a lot of our talls, now most of our defence. Good teams should be able to replace the 1 or 2 injuries on each line, but when they are so focused on one line, its almost impossible to do. Add to that the short pre-season, the inability to rest / manage players and everything compounds to what we've seen the last couple of weeks unfortunately. I'm not sure we'll turn it around against the Pies, then we have Brisbane and Geelong and I expect the season will be over if we lose the next 3.

We still have a lot of quality in the team, but its also the time to transition some of our older players into different roles going into next season.

This era isn’t dead yet but certainly this year is almost a write off. Injuries are the main cause and are the worst I’ve seen in my 40 odd years actively following the club. Bad luck or bad management but surely can’t have another year like that again.
Game plan is a mess. It currently resembles 2016 where coincidentally the team was also lacking in confidence. This probably also coincides with Dimma being by far the top dog in the coaches box with little genuine support like he got from Leppa and Carra. Am sure we will see some serious changes as the club will have identified this as an area of weakness.
finally the team/club appears tired and in need of a physical and mental break. As good as 17-20 were it would have taken a heap out of everyone. Finishing the season in August may be a blessing in disguise. Allow the team to put in a heap more work on the revised game plan, build better fitness.
blue skys ahead for me.

I have not been well for a little while so I was lying on the couch today watching the GF from 2020. I wanted to see just what has changed.

The contrast is stark. It isn't really game plan so much as effort and likely the way we are covering the ground and positioning. In the GF our players were everywhere. Even when Geelong had the ascendancy they were under massive pressure. Our players were running into contests, were running past when we had possession, were presenting up forward. Richmond players would hand pass out of a pack without looking because they knew there would be someone there. They do that in our last 2 games and it went straight to the opposition because they were there and we weren't. In the GF we would kick to a contest coming out of defence, but not to a single opposition player. Plus, we would kick along the wing, but not as close to the boundary all the time, a fair few kicks would go just outside the centre square.

It really does come down to more players at the contest, more players just off the contest and more players moving to present for a pass. We seem a bit static at the moment.

The chipping around is more evident this year but all teams do this at times. We are doing it more now but is it a big change in strategy; or is it a combination of a small change in strategy and the kick down the line is to the opposition, either the opposition on their own or an outnumber not in our favour?

The other thing I tried to look for, but only late in the game, was the difference with the stand rule. To be honest it is hard to see the difference - apart from how stupid it looks and how stupid it is.

So, my conclusion is that the stand rule requires a little bit of a change in positioning but really not that much. We can play the pressure, force it forward game, but it takes a huge effort and the only real way to implement that game style is to have numbers at the ball which is clearly taxing. With the injuries it is hard to tell whether the lower number of interchanges is having an impact. The way back is numbers at the ball which has been lacking in the last couple of weeks.

Also noticeable in terms of individual players - we miss Nank so much. Castagna was everywhere in the GF, all over the ground and impacting in contests. This year he always seems to be where the ball isn't. Dustin Martin - well DImma keeps saying that the players around Dustin are the reason he can play the way he does - well it is a team game and any star player needs to know they have support when they try and take the game on. We also miss Lambert, Prestia etc. Quality is hard to replace.

Maybe we are just having an off year before a bit of a reload. With everything going on it can't be easy to stay on top. Back to back was an amazing achievement, 3 in a row with shutdowns, hubs, uncertainty etc might be too much. Then again, all teams are facing these conditions, who knows who can maintain their form all the way into September?
