I’ve never understood the media’s obsession with Dusty potentially leaving the Tigers. They get excited when any big name player might move, but with Dusty it goes to a whole new level.
that sells "paper" or least keeps many journos employed for a further 12 months.

The more Leysy thinks, the more Dusty should be captain.
Reckon it will give him, and more importantly the club a huge lift.

No doubt true, but I assume he doesn't want it.
I reckon he'd make a good skipper, especially with the departure of some of our veterans this season, but I think he would baulk at the media requirements of the role.
Yep. I commented on this issue a few months back and got lambasted for it by a few but the fact is that Dusty clearly does not want to talk to the media ( which I don’t blame him for btw)
You can’t captain an AFL team and not talk to the media
He’s 33 and we aren’t Geelong or other clubs who appoint an extremely senior player in that position. Temporary fixes don’t work for any club
Next captain needs to be someone closer to the 24-28 year old mark already displaying natural leadership on field but more importantly off field and will be in that position for more than 1-2 years.
Think we all want the romance of Dustin being captain. Would at least make blokes like Cornes and McClure STFU about him not being invested etc.
However, I can't see him wanting to do it either. Just watch that little bit when Sam Banks approaches and Dustin spots the camera and he automatically turns away.
Banksy calls him "King"...... Think all those young blokes would be in awe of him anyway and the older brigade already know they have a front row seat to the greatest player they'll ever play the game with.
Dustin may never be captain in name but right now I see him as the leader of our team and without any sort of knowledge, I'm tipping the entire playing group do too.
I don't know if we win any of those flags without him.... I'm not just talking about on the day, I'm talking about the whole deal.... the pre season, the season, the finals, the whole shootin match!
So if Dustin wants to finish his career with us, and in doing so probably enshrine himself as our greatest ever, then I'd be happy for the club to pay overs for this to happen.
He may well be the only joy we get going to the footy for the next few years.... but it'll still be joy nonetheless!
Just make Dusty captain, he can have a page of cliches in front of him when he fronts the media, and he can even wave it in their faces and tell them to pick one for each question they ask. Sell it to Dusty as having some fun. He can sit there and take the p!ss week after week just for fun.

I don’t think he’d do it, and if he did do that the media would moan to the AFL and we’d probably be fined and given an even shittier draw than this year.
