Zips post sparked a thought - which somebody else has probably written here.
RFC get rid of the deadwood whose contracts expire at the end of 2017 - whoever they are - fringe, or crap, or under-performers. This opens up some $$ for giving Dusty whatever he wants, and begins something of a rebuild.
eh?

He would be mad to sign with us until the new player deal is done.

Until the new cap is known, we dont know if an offer of 1mil, 1.1m, 1.2m etc is market value and neither does dusty or the RFC.

Agree, how will the mooted 20% be split across the list. Will it be pro rata to all players, which I'd expect

Or would there be some element of discretion. Which becomes a really interesting point as Dusty is negotiating a new, as yet unknown number for next year

Maybe gives us more room to play with the numbers, certainly may give Dusty some leverage

Who knows what other clubs may cook up as we currently reside in a salary cap DMZ

We know the cap is going up. Why not offer a mil now and hopefully that satisfies him. Once the cap is known clubs like north and the wobbles will have more cash so their 1 mil and 1.2 mil will go up by another 200-300k. What's the point of us waiting. We will have to pay more as others offers will no doubt increase!

Pay your stars what they are worth . Spreading the 20% across the list is wrong . Our spuds are overpaid as it is use the cash to create space clear the plethora of deadwood on the list and go hard for quality who can improve our team.

I doubt the AFL will mandate how the clubs distribute the increased salary cap except for Rookies and new draftees.

All these middle tear players getting their nickers in a knot about the EBA when all they're really doing is making the starts of the competition even richer. That's where the vast majority of the extra salary cap will be spent, luring or keeping the stars, not on the average Joe.

Fair enough. A lot of blokes are lucky to be making six figures to play footy.

Say Dusty is worth 800k, however we are prepared to offer 900k and another club comes in at 1.2 and the space is still in the cap ,do we match or let him go ? . Obviously how the rest of the season goes has a say as well, what ever pick we get is most likley not going to be as good a player as Dusty

Figures used as example only ;)

CC if you match it forces the club to give up and adequate pick ?

Look at the Dangerfield guide as an example.

It will not be a high draft pick unless a club like St Kikda who have Hawthorns first pick ( if the Hawks finish bottom 2 ) and he wants to go to St Kilda I would be matching the offer and demanding their first pick same with North. Example only. Plus an ex equate youngster!

That would put us in a truly great position of 3 first round picks.

That's if Dusty goes.

Personally I want him to stay otherwise we are down to only 3 bonafide A grades !

Sorry waiting I misguided, I ment do we match the offer ,as in sign him on 1.2 or whatever the highest bid is if that's what he ends up wanting to stay.
