All those years we were bashed for picking Tambling mainly but also Deledio over Franklin i dont hear Melbourne being bashed for picking Trengove and Scully over Martin. If it were reversed we wouldnt hear the end of it

Only we ever seem to cop it. Although, the Hawks are in the firing line now. Hartung over Z. Merrett, trading away a zillion picks for O'Meara.

To be fair I think it's because we passed on Buddy *twice*. Though I guess same can be said for Melbourne and Dusty.

Funny that both had "bad" reps which kept clubs at bay. This tells me that all the psychoanalysis is BS when picking a gun. If he can play pick him!!

there have been plenty of kids who can play but have had a bad rep and have ended up nowhere.
our very own Troy Taylor is a prime example.

how was the AFL-subsidised, surgeon-supported, suckholes, picking Trengove and Scully over Dusty?

though if the rumours are to be believed Hawks had a lot of help from the AFL in managing Buddy's hammies, calves, goins and other soft tissue injuries. Help when there was a strange reaction to medication and needed to be rushed to hospital and then the AFL helped the Swans deal with Buddies mental illness issues.

Dusty, all they did was deport his old man.

Has to be considering Footscray also passed on him once.

Careys article all fine, as he paints both sides of chasing money vs success. But the last line "he owes the Tigers nothing" is discraceful

No one ever seems to notice that Hawthorn had the pick of Jack Riewoldt or Mitch Thorp. Both highly regarded, Tasmanian ,like for like tall forward options, who would go early in the draft. Hawthorn took Thorp, allowing Jack to fall to us a bit later. Hawthorn got 2 games and 1 goal out of Thorp, we've had 202 games,438 goals and a Coleman medal out of Jack and still a few seasons left in him.

What else would you expect, maybe Wayne felt he owed Nth. Melbourne, Anthony Stevens, his wife, etc, etc, etc nothing. A law unto himself.

8 Million over 7 years sounds fair, he's good enough to play out of the pocket the last couple of years like Leigh Matthews did.

Buddy has always been the afls baby.

Dusty is like an illegitimate prodigy.
