Dreamtime 2020 Game Day

Shame this crap is happening.

Yep its a massive shame as I know what it means to them. Its strange that the copyright owner of the flag continues to promote commercial interests in the flag above his own people.

The copyright was sold to a company that isn't owned by indigenous people.

EDIT oh wait, you mean this guy

Thats the guy. He's an aborigine and signed exclusive agreements where he can profit out of them, but restricts the aboriginal community as they should be able to with their flag.

yeah, I can see both sides here. he designed it. I'm not sure what the context was when he did so, but he's entitled to some return I'm guessing.

I'm pretty sure with the amount of merchandise already produced with the flag on it, he's probably already way better off than most of the people that his flag supposedly tries to bring together. The flag shouldn't be owned by anyone, whether he designed it or not.

If he wants to make some money from it, he should sell the copyright to the Commonwealth Government and allow it to be used in a similar way to the Australian flag.

I agree with your comment that the flag shouldn’t belong to anyone - and this all sounds very sus to me, hasn’t the flag been around for decades.

But, the commonwealth govt is the last place that should have ownership of the aboriginal flag given what they as a collective had done to our First Nations people over the years.

Only mentioned the Government as I don't believe the flag should belong to any commercial enterprise. If there is an aboriginal group that could own it, then I'm fine with that too, but they may not have the cash to be able to purchase it anyway.

Appreciate the connection with the Dreamtime concept, but the venue looms as a problem. August is the month where temperature and humidity begin to increase in Darwin, and this will be the latest in the calendar that an AFL match has been held there.

My concerns are infuenced by unpleasant memories of our only prior Darwin game, a 2011 "home" match against Port where we were heavily favoured to win but struggled to handle the greasy conditions.

Expecting to come up against another "special effort" from the opposition given that Essendon can't afford to lose, plus Caracella's knowledge of the gameplan. Won't surprise if Daniher is named.

Fingers crossed we can get it done and move on to the next challenge with a minimum of fuss.
Why would we be more prone to the conditions than the opposition? And our 2011 side v 2020 is probably Afghanistan Test team v Australia. I do remember that game just another disaster in a 6 year run of them.
But if the conditions are as you predict why would Daniher be advantaged? If a bloke who hasn't played in 2 years cuts us up says more about where we are than him.

Plus we will most likely have 4 indigenous players plus a Brisbane expat in Cholly who will revel in the heat, I see it as advantage as opposed to disadvantage for us.

Play this in ideal conditions at the MCG and we're going to win 9 times out of 10 (some might say 10 out of 10). The further you get from ideal footy conditions, the more uncertainty you introduce to the mix. We went into that Port game at 4's-on and our performance was offensive to watch.

Essendon like us is expecting some quality back soon. Daniher is close and they may well pull the trigger here. Might give them a psychological boost and changes their whole forward dynamic. It's not a popular opinion but I reckon their list (as opposed to form) is quite decent.

Dont think Caracellas intel is worth much.
Its no secret what we do but its bloody hard to stop unless you're uber skilled.
I expect us to romp this one as we crank up the pressure on the comp.

Are you serious????

Excellent!

Lets remove it from all Commonwealth building and institutions!

The idea that we stand under two flags is insidious in the first place - and now that we have seen true colours lets stop pretending!

Daniher won't play, Stringer maybe but I doubt Daniher will.

You read their list differently to me. They have some decent players, but their list profile is all over the place, the age profile indicates that they should be looking at the flag, but they are so far off that. By the time some of their players, the others will be dropping off and retiring, they've completely messed up their list profile. Look at how old their best 22 is.

If you designed something would you be happy if i said "oh you've earned enough from that now, give it back to the people".

I agree that the flag should belong "to its people" but legally it doesn't, so who are you (or we) to say the legal owner should just give up rights to it?
