DRAW 2023

Leysy's view:

- 6 Day breaks. Dont be a softo and complain. They actually make no difference to the outcome V 7 days. The great LTRTR even came with stats that 6 days advantage 7 (or at least make no diff). Which makes sense when you compare to every other sport in the world that play multiple times per week.
- All that matters are who you double up on and where. In that respect it is pretty tough. But the draw won't make or break our year though. The team's performance will.

In short - Stop sulking and whinging.
Tend to agree
Law of averages suggests that for each 6 day break a club earns an 8 day break at some stage.
Micro analysis of the fixture ain’t worth the effort.

Any time, any where, any one. If we believe and expect our team is good enough to win flags then who, when and where we play is irrelevant. Just go out n smack down as many as possible as often as possible n don't moan n bleat.
FMD didn't bother having much of a look at the draw til just a minute ago. Guess what??????

Gilligan n his mates have seriously *smile* us over again.

We've got all of maximum one big plus two half money earner type games this year Carlscum round one n perhaps the Moggies round nine and Smelbourne round twenty. Every other game for the year we've got low to moderate drawing home games. Barely pay the match day rent at the G most games.

That didn't last long, TM! :ROFLMAO:

You'll probably find we have gate sharing agreements with most of the clubs we have big games with, where we split the gates each year regardless of home and away. I know we do that with Carlton and Collingwood, we did with Essendon but stopped when we stopped automatically playing them twice. not sure if we have started again.

Spot on, 6 day breaks are an absolute nothing, you'd be hard pressed to find a more irrelevant factor in the game.

Hope that sentiment starts at the top this year, last thing we want is our CEO or Coach whinging about playing games at Marvel. Sets completely the wrong tone through the place.

I still reckon a 6 day break between two interstate games is a bit much. Apart from that 6 day breaks are just part of playing footy on different days of the week.

Oi! Play fair TBR. I wasn't bitchin about the who, when or where we play teams in regard to finals possibilities. I was bitchin about playin all the small crowd, low rent no money games that'll put another hole in our bottom line.

Sure, I don’t like 2 consecutive interstate trips and traveling in the final round. But I feel we are good enough to beat anyone, anytime. The finals bye makes travelling in the last round less of an issue. And Port will not be in finals contention anyway.

This year I am placing a bigger focus on when we play. 1 Thursday night in the first 15 rounds is great. I’m guessing there will be no Thursday night games after R15 (this is what they alluded to re the new TV deal, so I am assuming this will be the case in 2023 and 2024). A few Sunday games, which sucks, but I’ll take anything over Thursday night.

None of the games clash with other commitments at this stage. No clash with A-League games and no clash with the womens world cup (as long as Melbourne in R20 is on a Friday or Saturday and not Thursday or Sunday). Let’s hope they release the remaining 9 rounds much earlier than previous years.

And Port will not be in finals contention anyway.

I saw an interesting article yesterday (that I can't find now) about the predictions vs reality of last year's draw, comparing the measure of how hard a team's draw was considered when it was released vs what it turned out to be.

Naturally there was no correlation at all between the predictions and what actually happened, because teams performance varied from expectations.

I think Port will prove to be a big factor in that next year, I can see them making a decent run at it.

I can't. How have they improved their list?

Plus they sold the farm to get Horne-Francis. I’d be very surprised if they finish higher than 2022.

If memory serves me we seem to do well in games with short breaks and not so good where we have extended breaks.

They've made it as hard as possible for us. No change there. We always seem to get the latest possible bye, in the hope/likelihood that we're gagging for a rest by then and drop one we should win beforehand.

Bent us over.

On form 13 wins there & that is not taking into account Cats Dees Pies Lions Freo Swans games. Hopefully a injury free run with addition of Taranto, Hopper , younger players more experienced if we do not make top four it will be a disappointing year unless we win the Big one.
