Draft picks 2019

I reckon bianco might have been in the mix, but when Brisbane didn't match our bids it pushed him lower.

Is Martyn a similar type to Blanco?

As much as I wanted Bianco to Richmond, and we did speak to him a bit, this is a very smart trade by us.

If we were interested in Bianco we would have taken him with one of the three picks. It's strange that collingwood did the trade as they had the next pick. If they thought we wanted bianco why would we gift him to them? Bizarre trade by them.

Another possibility is two clubs wanted our pick for Bianco, so even though we didn’t want him, one of them needed to pay up in order to stop us trading the pick to their competitor. They might explain it sooner or later, I’m just happy we upgraded to St Kilda’s 2nd rounder next year for free.

Shocked Robbo hasn't started ranting about the injustice of the Premiers stealing Academy players from Interstate teams. That's not what the Academies are for. The AFL needs to do something about it now.

I thought there was a sort of gentlemans agreement to not draft Acadamy players,
Especially the long term development boys?

What's the story with us and the PSD and rookie drafts? We didn't have a pick? Do we not have any spots on the list? Or are we waiting to get another Stackman in the supplementary period?

Geez it's a lot more complicated recruiting players than it used to be. National Draft, free agency, restricted free agency, delisted free agency, PSD, rookie draft, supplementary selections, mid season draft blah blah blah.

Waiting for Gil and his imbeciles to announce another selection period between 10am and 11am on Boxing Day to take the spotlight away from the Boxing Day test:rolleyes:

I hope not. Unless we’ve got multiple academy players worth 3rd rounders coming to our rookie list for free, any such gentleman’s agreement would favour other clubs. Brisbane were essentially hoping to secure multiple players on their rookie list who are actually worth late 2nd/early 3rd rounders. The developmental incentive is in the opportunity to have first dibs while receiving a discount, nothing more as far as I’m concerned, because all clubs don’t have equal access to prospects for development.

We have 44 players. Isn't that the max?

We had 45 last year (38+7), and Pickett made 46. Not sure of the mechanism that allowed Pickett onto the rookie list when Grigg retired. Maybe Grigg was excluded and one of the rookies was temporarily elevated to replace Grigg and keep the minimum 38 on the main list?

Main list needs to be 38-40. Ellis, Butler, Grigg, Menadue, Moore go out, five ND picks come in - still 38.

Townsend and Weller are out from the rookies. I think that leaves us scope to add another rookie to Stack, Baker, Pickett, Chol, Eggmolesse-Smith & Aarts (?).

I always thought it was 38 plus 6 rookies OR 39 plus 5 rookies OR 40 plus 4 rookies PLUS a Category B. Yeah not sure how that then allowed Pickett to come on last year. Must have had to do with Grigg retirement which allowed us to grab a mid year recruit.

Possibly we're saving one more spot to allow a Stack style trial in the New Year? Is that stil happening?

Richmond football club is developing a woman’s wheel-chair cricket team as we speak.
