Demon tests positive to cocaine after home and away game

I cannot see how the Demons can keep him on their list.

I understand from a good source that he was told his papers would be stamped if his behaviour didn't improve.

No doubt the Demons will doing everything they can to wriggle their way through this one, because he is a fine footballer, but if what I heard is true, it sends a hell of a message to the rest of their list.

And there are a few others on that list who don't need to be given any further 'get out of jail free' cards.

Pretty sad.

Not the first one though….. Titus (and Mick who does nothing) have a whole podcast series on it.

In the nose much more on the nose than it used to be.

Joel Smith won’t play at the Dees again, he will be the scapegoat for Clayton.

They will *smile* him off. Because he is an ordinary footballer.
But Oliver they will tip toe around, I bet some at the Junction oval are pissed off they didnt off load him to Adelaide.
Adelaide would've copped a Yarran/Bennell.

They are shiit.
When I told Petrecca to come to Richmond at the start of 2023 at Blairgowie, He said no way, he said we are a top club.
Imagine him ^ Dusty in the forward 50.
He will leave if Melbourne continue with these off field issues.

I could be wrong but can just see that Melb have massively blown an opportunity to have a dynastic period. Let’s not forget that they had 8-9 more scoring shots than Collingwood last year in their final and blew it.

Culture is awful. From the top down. The former President (Bartlett) recognised the drug issues at the Club and wanted to bring in hair testing. For all. Including admin staff. Pert said “great idea, I agree with but societal studies suggest up to 50% of younger people are on illicit substances, how will we replace them?” i don’t know what societal studies he has been reading but that is a fair jump. Notwithstanding we all know illicit drugs have become a major issue everywhere. So, as an alternate plan, after all agreeing with Bartlett, they shaft him out of the Club. Brutus stabbing Caesar (not our Caesar who is still doing a fine job), had nothing on their treachery and that is to play out in the Courts.

Lots of rumblings about lack of transparency at board level with replacement directors handpicked to come in as required and keep it a cozy little family.

The coach. Every one except the MFC seems aware that he has either had or has issues with gambling. The list know cos some of them were happily throwing down some pots and beers with him and having a punt as well. Hardly the best example.

Clarrie . Great player but he has more than just a few problems. Interesting how the stories just keep on coming out. Windscreen wipers getting busted. On the gear. Told multiple times to lift his game and now driving while his licence suspended. Let’s face it, it’s a deliberate act to get behind the wheel of the car and drive around while know you are banned. Probably has been driving ever since losing his licence. Colombian marching powder has been suggested as his Achilles heel, but those photo’s of him a little while back “suggested” potentially another substance as well. Meth. Sores on his face and neck in some photo’s post the end of footy season. On our limited external information he doesn’t really seem to be getting the message at the moment. So what message does that send to the group??

Maybe Joel Smith will be the sacrificial lamb that the Club will jump on to show they are on top of it all. Maybe not.

Steven May. Good footballer. Not such a great bloke. Clearly nasty when on the red wine as per the Melksham incident and he got what he deserved. Mouthy and the greatest finger pointer I have seen at his fellow defenders when the opposition score a goal. Particularly when his opponent kicks it. Watch him yell and point at everyone apart from himself. At least when Nick Maxwell from Collingwood would finger point, he was merely pointing out the patch of grass he would keep an eye on while his teammates took the big forwards.

Just putting those things into the soup mix does not make for a tasty dish. Who knows what else isn’t quite right.

But Melb destroyed the Dogs in 2021 in the GF and looked set for a period of dominance. 2022 and 2023 were both failures and it seems plenty to sort out. Wait and see I guess. They may make a liar of me and win the next 3 in a row but I strongly doubt it.

Melbourne will rightly keep Oliver.

12 months ago Everyone on here and the media was also saying De Goey couldn't stay at collingwood and they needed to cut the cord.

No regrets by either party now.

Clubs rightly in most cases treat players differently depending on talent levels.

Each player is different & it depends on the extent of their issues. Let's not forget Ben Cousins was sacked from West Coast.
The talk was pretty tough from Melbourne pre trade period recently. Let's see how this plays out..

From the outside it appears that Oliver’s issues are serious and getting worse. Not sure it’s in either parties best interests for him to stay in his current environment but agree, that is the most likely outcome.

Despite what clubs preach about player welfare etc they continually show a willingness to overlook, minimize or even outright bury almost anything as long as they keep getting the ‘W’.

Btw, Cousins is a better comparison than De Goey.

Maybe. Though the De Goey wrap sheet aint small. Among others:

- Broke his hand in a bar punch on. Then told the club his dog bit it lol.
- Drunk driving
- Indecent assault charge. Dropped admittedly.
- Arrested in New York charged and charged with forcibly touching. Downgraded and pleaded guilty to second degree harassment.
- The Bali breast and sexual gesture incident.

He is a *smile*. Wouldn't even put $5 towards the raffle of Leysy's old cricket club that he was paid a good few G's to speak at. Who does that?

But despite the above, would you want to keep him at your club when everyone else is saying not to. Absolutely.

Melbourne will be the same with Oliver. At least until it gets completely untenable, his on-field performance suffers and there is no way back.

Guys that win 4 x B&F's and 2 x AFL CA's association awards by 26 don't get replaced so it's a massive call to move them on.

I actually wanted us to take a punt on DeGoey if he became available.
Didn't see his indiscretions as near as bad as were made out. Unfortunately McRae also didn't see his behavioral problems as insurmountable & he turned Jordan around. The rest is history & he played a key part in the Pies premiership.

Alternatively Oliver's latest legal indiscretion after some massive very recent interventions from the club must have some scratching their heads down there at Demonland. Seizures (Smith in attendence), 'ADHD', hamstring injury that turned into months, moved in with Gawn, now driving on a suspended licence..
So much smoke.

The Dees have been exceedingly quiet since this latest incident..

I like his footy. No doubt he can play but right now that 7 year contract on big dollars is looking like hard work.

When May said they should have won the 2023 flag he was right, but should’ves don’t win flags
Imo they are the best team in it, they totally blew the finals because they were the better team against both Collingwood and Carlton. Why they lost is hard to know but it has happened too often for it to be a coincidence.
Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney and Brayshaw. Noone should be able to match that engine room.
I know quite a few demon fans and I feel for them. They have an awesome team, hadn’t won a flag for 57 years and they couldn’t go because of COVID. We missed one as well but at least I got to see 17 and 19 live.

Can accept and agree with all that ……. except for feeling for Demon fans and I know heaps of them too

Feel for Oliver. He needs serious help and probably needed it 18 months to 2 years ago but was instead “managed” because he is a brilliant player and the club liked winning too much.
