Some conflicting reports today in the papers re Lids. The sun says he'll be re-signing in coming weeks after negotiation on $ whilst the Age says Lids and the club are miles apart and he's fielding offers of >$550k from other clubs.

Thoughts?

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

wasn't this the same bloke that was almost dropped this year on form?

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

Any figure in that vicinity is not worthy for Deledio. He can write 'run hard' on his hand but that doesn't justify the extra dollars. He should be writing 'need to pull the finger out'.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

No-one outside the club and Lids' family really knows what is going on and therefore we are all guessing as demonstrated by the divergence in the media reports. This is DH's first major challenge - convincing Lids that his future is at RFC and that is what it will be all about, not the money and let's hope he is successful.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

My worry is I can see another brad ottens scenario. He goes to someone like carlton or bulldogs and plays in a premiership cause sure as hell at the moment he won't see finals for at least 3 years with us.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

Yep, we do not have any players that scream class other than Lids and Cotch, the direct result of two wooden spoons. We cannot afford to lose either.

p.s. what do we have to show from the draft for the other 26 years of failure?

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

Lids has had an easy ride with the club getting $$$,$$$ every year and not consistently putting in.
Its about time he showed that hes playing for the jumper and signed on again.
If he just wants to jump ship because were not going to stand for players that dont go in when its their turn so be it.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

Needs to toughen up. I think he has been spending too much time with Dr Pink in his ear.
No. 1 draft pick, arm chair ride, easy options.
Needs Dimma to toughen him up and make him an elite footballer (which he can be, but alas is nowhere near that now).
If he leaves ( :veryupset), he will need industrial strength ear muffs when he plays his old side.
Needs to challenge himself and rise above paychecks, expectations, hair products.

So we lost ottens (pick2) and now Lids (pick 1)? Why the hell then do some people on these boards want us to tank for high picks we can't bloody hell keep them for more than 4 years???? We do the hard yards only to have them do a runner on us??

If Lids wants to continue playing for us its simple he just has to re-sign. :gotigers

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

Will be a 3 year deal for Deledio around $1.8-$2 Mil hopefully front ended.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

I don't want to lose Lids, but have faith that the club knows what he should be worth, and pay accordingly.

I doubt he wants to leave. If there is half the optimism amongst the playing group as there is amongst the supporters, then he'll probably want to stay. If he just wants to play for the highest bidder, well then we don't want him. Hardwick has made it clear that we are after blokes that play for the jumper.

Trade-wise we'd be asking something like a low first round pick plus a second round pick, which severely limits his options.

Or he can go into the PSD and go to Melbourne.

What do you pay your best player?

Well said.

Talks are on-going as far as I am aware and I doubt they have halted as being reported in some quarters.

Hardwick will sit and talk to him and hopefully a deal will be done as quick as possible.

$500,000 a year? Bargain when you consider we are struggling to make 92.5% of the salary cap.

Hardwick will implement the rating system that is down at the Hawks.

Deledio will be sitting top of the tree. 3 year deal at $1.8 million front loaded expected.

I agree. We are going to free up a huge amount of the salary cap and the money has to be spent. He's player number 1 compared with his teammates (don't compare him with the rest of the league). He should be paid accordingly.

That is about what I was floating a while back. I would be happy with 3 years 2 mill front end loaded.

That is money well spent.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

If McMahon is on 300k then 500k for Lids is a bargain.
