How do we expect to win games When there’s so much discontent We’re not a united team anymore
Premiership assistant coaches jumping ship Players not happy being played out of position forced to learn new roles
Players gifted games whilst others have to break down the walls for an eternity in the VFL to get a game
Punt Rd not the happy place it once was

".....seeing a little bit of a trend where the retaliator seems to get pinged a fair bit at the moment".

Is he fair dinkum or has the old fella taken too much blood from his brain?

That's only been the way in football and every other sport since sport began. If that's the depth of wisdom we are getting it's no wonder our discipline has such holes in it.
I think he’s very good speaking to the group. Speech and motivation. Just listen to the insight from the GF.
Tactics and game plan may be his weakness

So penalising the retaliator rather than the originator is fine is it?

If it is fine, please explain why.

If it is not fine, please explain how one could possibly defend the umpires who let this go.

It's not fine, but it's life. Even my 11yo knows on a soccer field that it's stupid to retaliate no matter what an opponent does. But I might be a bad Dad for teaching to wait until he gets chance to make it look like he's going for the ball when getting even..

How well has Clarko been since losing all his assistants? Struggling to revive the Hawks and they look miles off. Just saying some coaches are only as good as their assistants. Very rare are the ones that lift the others around them no matter who they have by their side. Craig Bellamy is one. I believe he is the best coach of any sport in this country atm.

Dimma says we've lost confidence and connection. Yep he's right and definitely the injuries to key players has been significant but the tweaking of the game plan has created another 'c' word - confusion. Solution - build back trust in the process and ensure you have the buy-in from every player who takes to the field, the responsibility of another 'c'word - the coaches. Our success in recent years has been because we've been a systems club and players have bought into that system. If we lose this we're gone, not just this year but those that follow.

The 3 losses in Macrae Leppa and Inness has hurt us no doubting it.
Graigy they were saying the same when Carcella left and we won 2 flags.
Im know McCrea is a top class coach not sure Leppa is the wizard everyone thinks he is.
We are losing because we have 15 players out of form.
Other clubs have there older players killing it, Rich Hawkins Kennedy etc our ones looked deflated and ready for retirement

Just like in 2016, his post match media sessions are a waste of time. Says nothing, congratulates other team & talks them up & says we have a lot to work on. Time the journos questioned him on specifics plus give the members something insightful such as what is going wrong with the game plan.

It’s not just the losses, it’s the fact that for the most part they haven’t been replaced. Our club and other wealthy ones have had their soft cap reduced so that poorer clubs can compete, and yet one of those is splashing around cash trying to attract a big name player.

It’s feeding the chooks. Coaches rarely, if ever, say anything insightful at after match pressers. They do it under sufferance and because the club will be fined if they don’t turn up.

Surely it doesn't come as a surprise to you that the retaliator gets caught? Every kid at school learns that by the time they are 10.

Ok, I understand now.

Under 10 umpiring standards are fine in a billion dollar professional game.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I expected a bit better but so be it.

TBR is right though David.
Old school rules of footy, strike first while no-one is looking, because the maggots always catch the bloke who goes second. If ya have to go second, save it up for later n under a big pack where no-one can see ya n make sure ya add plenty of interest for having to wait.

To a certain extent I agree but, for some strange reason, in the highest level of the competition, with 3 umpires out there, I actually expect them to be competent.

Too much to ask, clearly.

It is, because it happen in all sports. Rugby is a classic for the retaliator being the one caught. Video ref/umps go some way to address it, but it's always been part of the game.

what would dimma be thinking when he lays his head on the pillow tonight?

for all the eulogising,

we are a game out of an elimination final against Sydney and a semi against Geelong, on the G.

potentially with a best 22, minus Noah and Bachar.

would he honestly be thinking

'our 3 peat starts this week'. or

'we're done'

???
