Raw centre clearance numbers only tell part of the story. I imagine our centre clearances that result in deep, well-targeted entries are significantly lower than our opponents'. A lot of our centre clearances are hurried hack kicks that barely reach the 50.
It would be great to know this, would they keep such precise stats?

I heard we are No.1 for i50's this year, centre clearances must be a portion of it.

Yet when we have given up big leads we have been smashed out of the middle (Carlton/GC) in those periods.

Our turnover game has been pretty good all year. IMO its no coincidence that the stand rule has been worked a bit (not many teams man the mark until it almost gets in their D50) and not as strongly policed by umpires. They almost never say stand anymore.

Karen Cornes at it again, slagging Dimma (and Richmond) as whingeing again. *smile* I hate this feral little *smile*.
Was going to 100% say something. Kane cannot control himself at all when it comes to Dimma and RFC.

Everytime Dimma opens his mouth about something, every single time, Cornes comments on it. I love it.

Richmond and Dimma rent free in his head. He's obsessed with us. rent free.

Yeah, he really doesn’t deal well with the fact that we won 3 Premierships when the Power were up and about and they got squat. I wish they’d had a camera on him during the final moments of the 2020 PF. Would have been fun to see him losing his *smile* while watching it.

The heavy load thing is nonsense.

Heavy loads don't make your brain stop working.
Bang. You can be as knackered as you want but Grimes allowing that Zoolander to stroll through completely unattended is nothing to do with loads.
Nor is continually coughing up leads.
Something stinks and it ain't sweaty jocks from training loads.
You can't always be up.
The cycle will begin again.
How we approach it will be fascinating considering where we have come from.

Last year we finished 12th and, post season, lost Houli and Astbury but gained Tarrant.
Our stars are a year older, with some in surprisingly rapid decline like Edwards and Lambert, whilst Dusty has been more or less a non event since his kidney injury.
Perhaps we’re not as good as we think?
Core of the senior group been scalped in one season. After going back to back during the covid madness it was no surprise to have a crash n burn year in 2021. Bash, Assa, Lamblett, Shedda n Dusty being virtually non existent this year and Cotch, Jaaack, Prestygiocomo n a few others ageing n slowing while getting game miles into the young blokes has left us hovering over shitters ditch this year. Doubt anyone knows how good or bad we might end up being going forward

Yep, its not like fatigue could affect his decision making, affect his reaction time, affect his acceleration, or affect his chasing speed.

Possibly but clutching at straws. We have been like this for 18 months now.

His stubbornness and lack of creativity had been bemoaned on here for many years - I could be finally on board. If ever we need a clever ignition and shuffle it’s now. But do it with older experienced players like Vlaustin and Rioli and Pickett not Gibcus - get Balta back we need him back and he is no Carey - may be a Rance version though

As an aside did Dimma and Karen play together at the Power?

Yeah I agree TM. I think expectations have been too high given where we are in transition. The team is about where I thought it would be, I always felt we were a 6-10th team in 2022. In many ways we have played better than I thought we would this year but without the results. The loss of CCJ and Chol also severely hampered us because it left us very short of back ups in the forward half and 2nd ruck and that was the reason the Balta experiment happened. If just one of them had stayed Balta would have played back all year imo.

If you listen to Tony Greenberg on Talking Tigers he describes us as being in the twilight zone which I think is an apt description.

I am actually more optimistic about the future than I was before 2022 because we still can play some great footy and we have discovered some players. If we don't get at least 3 very good AFL footballers out of the 2021 draft class I will be very surprised. Add a couple of midfielders to our group from other clubs (Taranto or Hopper and one more) and I think we are looking ok going forward but what we desperately need is a young developing key forward or even a more mature one to stop gap so we can draft one.

Our on field difficulties are not simply about injury or poor kicking for goal.
After chopping and changing in our response to the introduction of the stand rule (and 666) last season, we have gone full circle and are mostly ignoring the changes this year.
Relying heavily on turnovers now.
Pretty close to all in on the chaos game.

Fremantle move differently and will gather possessions mostly kicking short to a man.
Unless we can defend their possession game with a manning up style across the ground when they are in possession, I don’t like our chances.

Have the sense that our style and the rather abrupt and unexpected end to our good fortune maybe coming to a head.
(In a healthy environment our approach should be beginning to divide opinion).
We are gone from a top 4 finish now and failure today will probably see us finish the weekend outside the 8.
Maybe this game will bring any such division forward to a slow boil.

Dimma is apparently now taking home a substantial proportion of the soft cap. Our assistant coaches are not as qualified as they once were and our results also reflect these changes.

Amazingly, Dusty has publicly been offered a free pass. Other important contributors to our recent success have left or are leaving.
Our two leaders, Peggy and maybe Brendon will also be packing up.

P&B won’t want to leave a mess. What occurs over the next six weeks is going to shape what occurs over the next six years.

So our captain and 3 time premiership defender is unable to make basic defensive structure decisions when he’s tiered.

Good choice as captain then

i actually dont reckon Grimes' position was wrong- he was blocked from chasing. we should have had someone filling that space in front of the ruck contest, and those who were near by should have had better awareness.
