Re: Cricket

Unfortunately Hodge's file may already be stamped not a big hundred in this match it may come down between Hodge and Symonds and Hussey if Langer is fit.

Tassie are 5/61 chasing 215
Denton and Lewis 2 wickets

Hodge still made a 70.How could he have his file stamped when he hasn't been given a chance. My 7 year old son could make runs against the Windies.

Re: Cricket

I think they would be wanting more than 70, especially after his double failure against WA. I hope I am wrong but I think they have Hodge stamped only for specialist middle order position and they rate Katich ahead of him. As Symonds and to a lesser degree Hussey can both bowl they may be first preferance for Watson spot. I hope I am wrong though and Hodge does get a chance.

Re: Cricket

Tassie all out for 105

Vics win outright.

They are surprising me so far this year, didnt think they would be much chop

Hodge has to step up more than that I'm afraid Mb.
He needed a hundred. In fact he needs to peel one off in almost every match he plays in.
Particularly as the Test side won so convincingly.
History will show it's much harder to get in this side than get out of it.

Vics win out right after being asked to follow on.  Chalk that up for the anti-follow on brigade. :clap :hihi ;D

Always bowl last.

Yep, very disappointed in Tassie. Have been a Tigers fan for as long as I can remember for obvious reasons (not from living there), but they should know better than try and bat last down there.

Silly stuff.

Re: Cricket

Shane Watson's been ruled out with a shoulder injury for 2 months. That may well be his test career.... One door closes another one opens. Is Hussey likely to get a chance in the middle order as Langer resumes? Or will Hodge finally get a baggy green?

Actually McGill is the likely replacement.
MacGill's already in the 12 & will probably come into the 11.Lets not forget Kattich failed once again & should be shipped off to the pura cup indefinitely.

Re: Cricket

According to Fox Sports Hodge & Symonds are in the running for Watson's spot.Possibly both could be included if Kattich gets rightfully axed.If the selectors don't axe Kattich they themselves should be axed.

Exactly mb. Katich has no confidence whatsoever at the moment, he looks like getting out to anything bowled to him. The way he went out last innings was the last straw.
Have not been online for a few days, so I will just say this:

                                     Well done VICS!!!!!!!!!

Re: Cricket

Pleased Hussey will get another chance now that Langer has been ruled out of the 2nd Test.Katich needs to regain form & confidence in Shield cricket.I'd give Hodge a run for the last 2 tests of this series (at least) to see what he's got.Symonds in good form but we know what he can do. Obviously handy but more of a batsman who bowls a bit.

Selectors seem to be looking for/trying to develop an allrounder that's more a front line bowler who can also bat. Thus, not sure that Watson yet fits this mould re his bowling.Needs to lead the Qld attack as he did when he was at Tassie. Gilchrist indicated the team benefited from having more bowling options.Could be argued that Warne & Lee have been performing as 'bowling allrounders' in the last couple of series, opening the door for MacGill.

Warne,McGrath + MacGill nearing the end of their careers. Opportunity beckons for Watson & White in the next year or 2 if they can improve their bowling.Thornley could be smokey but more in the 'Symonds' mould.

Re: Cricket

Test side just announced.Hodge & Symonds in for Watson & Kattich. The selectors have got it right & hopefully Macgill will be 12th man.Kattich's papers should now be stamped.

Re: Cricket

Hodge has a chance. Good. Ball's in his court.
No better time than now to grab a spot in the Aussie middle order. Opportunities like this were as rare as hen's teeth not too long ago. It's his if he's good enough. Time will tell....

Re: Cricket

First Test, Multan
Pakistan 274 (Salman Butt 74, Inzamam 53; Flintoff 4-68, Harmison 3-37)
England 253/3 (Trescothick 135 no, Bell 71)
Stumps, day two

Watched some of day 1.Pakistan were in a very strong position but threw away a good start.See Bell got 71 which surprises me a little after the way he batted in the ashes.

Re: Cricket

Harmison & Flintoff adapted well to the unfavourable conditions.Showed that bowling fast, straight & full anywhere will eventually reap rewards.Hope our blokes took notes...Keeper's catch off spinner Udal a clever & funny piece of work, perhaps the crucial point in the Paki innings as he was well set.

Lee did bowl well in yesterday's ING match v QLD. Unfortunately the rest of the 'test bowling' lineup were poor & fodder for a rejuvenated Hayden + Perrin.NSW opener Jacques continues to impress & rack up the scores with another big ton.Deserves a shot @ the triangular ODI series later in the summer,at the very least.
