Cricket

Brilliant third day performance by the inspirational Aussie Captain.
India gets on top n the bats are crumbling in a big way. Desperately in need of a touch of inspiration n fighting leadership to try n steady the sinking ship just a little bit. Ten, fifteen maybe even twenty runs n a half hour of gritty fight maybe in partnership with someone to try n make the Indians earn a victory. Yeah, nah *smile* raising a sweat, go the massive tonk first ball n scuttle back to the pavilion.
Second innings for the Indians, bugger all lead to protect n a shiny new rock in hand. Games pretty much done n dusted, all that perhaps can be salvaged is a tiny hint of pride. As our only pace bowler, supposedly one of the elite. Take the shiny new pill n try to make a batsman hop around a bit for an over or three, maybe get a crazy ball to steeple off some rubble or grub low off a dust patch. Yeah, nah *smile* raising a sweat, give the ball to the spinners, spread the field n hide somewhere down on the boundary.
The Pythons had the perfect term for it many years ago. Cheese eating surrender monkeys, bonjour.

Wasn't real sure about his leadership before this tour n two games in I'm seriously thinkin he's not a leaders arse hole. Mind you he's got a lot of senior mates n advisors around him not much better.

It's OK everyone,

No need to worry. Pat and "his" coach have it all under control.

"There's been some real positives out of this tour, there's no negativity in the camp and we'll be re-enforcing all those positives to the boys"

Smith looked spooked today. Not a good sign.

Renshaw out LBW 3 times in a total of 16 balls faced. Another brilliant selection decision by Dumb (Bailey) and Dumber (McDonald).

Dumb Dodemaide you mean. He is the selector on tour picking the team alongside McDonald.

Bailey yes for having him in the squad, but not for picking him ahead of Head in the first test. Dodemaide is your man. ;)

Oh Dear. Dodemaide the Dud.

Bit of a swing and a miss for mine Leysy.

This is possibly the worst I have seen from an Aussie test team.

Cummins has lost the plot.

I'm sorry, a captain can't play that shot. One of the more panic-stricken moments I've seen from a skipper.

We thought we were a big chance to win back the BGT

Then we over-thought selections and tactics.

But at the end of the day we aren’t good enough. The batting is average at best.

Warner was never going to make a run in India. Never. His recent 200 a massive red herring for long decline in form.

Special mention to Renshaw. I’ve never seen a test batsman look so out of his depth in that over he succumbed. It was like we had to bring in a club cricketer playing on the next oval.

Our batting continues to under perform. Flat track bullies.

Smudge might be just about done. Marnus, Head and Green need to become our premier batsmen (Marnus is already there) if we are any chance against the Poms.

I agree we struggle on spinning and probably seaming wickets but I'm not sure Smith is done yet based on his form in the Aust. summer. Warner is definitely done though. I'd question our coaching as well.

Smith may not be done but we can no longer rely on him as a premier batsman in my opinion. Maybe slot him at 5 like we did with Tugga

Marnus and Head are the ones who really need to lead the next generation, Head potentially as a cavalier opener.

If Head opens against Broad and Anderson in England he'll make fewer runs than Warner did in 2019.

It won't happen this winter due to Ashes and World Test Championship but next summer we might see some changing of the guard. Although it's bit Mother Hubbard..

  • Warner's done so we need to find a new opener. Khawaja's playing well but is 36 so soon we'll need to have found two.
  • Pucovski's issues are starting to bite - he should be leading the next generation of batsmen.
  • We have to persevere with Head but if he fails in India and England he'll be another hometown hero.
  • Bancroft is 30 and a first-class average of 38 to go with his Test return of 26 indicates his level. Harris is the same age with nearly identical averages at each level. Next.
  • The lack of batting quality coming through is a concern. Only Handscomb (81), Bancroft (53), Renshaw (51) and McSweeney (51) are averaging over 50 this Shield season. Wade is next at 49. (Renshaw has made 310 runs from eight innings in the Shield this season, and one of them was 200 not out. So, 110 runs in seven other innings.)
  • McSweeney is a neat player and bowls handy off-spin. Bit early for him, which is true of any of our young batsmen (Wyllie, Chandrasinghe).
  • Daniel Drew - never seen him bat but at 26 and 600+ runs with two tons in his first season is promising. But then you could have said similar for Dean, Patterson, Whiteman, et al.
  • Neser should have been in the touring squad. Averages 23 with the ball and 25 (and rising) with the bat at first-class level. Could have given us the option of an extra bowler in the absence of Green. Should be in the Ashes squad, conditions will suit.
The good news is Maxi might be available for the next Shield match.

Cummins is returning to Australia for a family matter. It’s funny how when things go bad they really go bad.

Maxwell got a couple of hours batting practice for Fitzroy-Donacaster, scored 61 from 92 balls.
