Cricket

Wasn't the Big *smile* supposed to be x-factor stuff by even playing in drizzle rain?

This constant stopping in the Sydney clash is archaic and stupid IMO.

Disappointing collapse by Aust under 19's in the ODI World Cup against the West Indies, they went from 4/158 to be all out for 179.
Fraser-McGurk who is 17 and has played shield cricket for Victoria batted well for 84. It was all down hill when he went out.
It's on fox 503 for those who are interested.

Saw the overall result but thanks for filling in some details. McGurk looks to be very promising but so young in his career, lots can go awry from here. I'm wondering how many players from NSW in the team (that didn't give him much support when it mattered)?

Sorry i didn't see your post.
The Vics and NSW have about 4 players each in the side, Ian Harvey's nephew is the Captain.
Aust currently playing the Poms and are 2/77 chasing 253, Harvey is 25 not out.

Gee the BBL has turned even more embarrassing.
Cricketing legends like Shane Warne, Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist reduced to discussing the fact that seagulls face into the wind so it won't blow up their bum.
Speaking of which, I reckon they themselves got a bit of a rocket at some stage because they were later trying to talk seriously about how bad the Stars were - and making it sound like they thought it mattered ... which clearly they don't.
I wonder why people like that sell their souls. They obviously don't need the money.

I watch it because it's cricket but I'm not sure I can continue.
I think I'd rather watch soccer. I hate soccer but at least I know the players and spectators take it seriously and care about the result.

They have turned one of Australia's most celebrated sports into a joke.

Not sure you are the target audience 23. Kids enjoy it.

Hit n giggle cricket with bells, whistles, flashing lights, music n hyped up announcers. There's now a *smile* load of these tournaments world wide playing hundreds of games a year. Thirty seconds after the games are over everyone's forgotten what happened n who won but it's off to the next instant irrelevant rush.
Unfortunately like so much else in the world these days everything is about the excitement n gratification of a two second wet fart while extracting maximum revenue out of the punter.

In India however, I was called by name and regularly asked for autographs. I also had people quoting my own stats from my modest bush career and knowing how many hundreds I made etc.... On one occasion I even had someone who knew my brother's stats.
They probably have you earmarked as a potential source of information for an illegal bookmaker.

Cricket is the the ten most popular sports in INDIA. There really is nothing else. Their hockey dominance ended with Independence. There would be Pacific Islands that have won moreOlympic medals.

Under 19 World Cup.
India made 9/233.
Australia were 3/4 after 0.5 overs. Fraser-McGurk run out for a diamond duck off the first ball.
4/17 after 2.3 overs - keeping up with the run-rate.
Now 4/54.

Agree, although I am not their target market. It really is a farce of a series. I've not watched one match in full and could care less who wins or loses.

They should really just have 5 over matches so they get more close games.

Seems tv audience and crowds are down from last yearand previous years:

Sixers all rounder Moises Henriques also acknowledged the dip in attendance last season.
“I have noticed the crowds aren’t as high as what they were last year. I don’t know if that’s resonating with the TV ratings as well,” he said. “I definitely notice the SCG isn’t as full as it has been.”

Average attendances:
BBL05 (15/16) — 29,443
BBL06 (16/17) — 30,122
BBL07 (17/18) — 26,528
BBL08 (18/19) — 20,554
BBL09 (19/20) — 18,880*

from Ric Finlay Twitter:
Attendance over first 40 matches:
888,486 #BBL08
753,059 #BBL09

I reckon the BBL season still has too many games and still goes on too long. It should have been wrapped up by the AD long weekend but it doesnt finish til Feb 8.

And the shame about it all is that the cricket we love, test cricket, is over by January 6.

Too true, test cricket is still the best version of the game.

Those of us who don't watch BBL have felt the cricket void acutely since the end of the Tests.

I'll admit to watching one match as Samit Patel was going to play some games at my club and went as far as coming to training two weeks ago, but it's fallen through. Nice enough fella, no arrogance at all.

On the TGSTW podcast about Australia A, Mark Taylor remembered fondly the old season format with tests interspersed with ODI's, and thought it actually made for better cricket as it allowed teams to re-group after a loss. The last test would often be in February.

With the Big Bash, that sort of format may not be possible i suppose.

I thought the reason they put the formats into their respective format blocks ie tests and ODIs was because the players hated chopping and changing of the format and the squads.

Stars choking in a final yet again.

The dismissals would embarras D grade suburban batsmen.
