Yeah Hughsey and the Herald Sun been on the ball all throughout this pandemic haven't they? Both parties have been whinging left right and centre about lockdowns since day 1 and have been on the lookout for any reason undermine Victoria's response to the pandemic. Hard to take either of them seriously after being so consistently wrong throughout the last 18 months.

If you refuse to have accountability in Governments you will get even more incompetence and corruption.

Dan Andrews is bringing through laws in a super rushed manner to give more power than anyone has ever had in Victoria. Part of it was claimed is so they can be more transparent. Why the rush?

Yet when he is forced to hand over the information he appeals it. So the behaviour reflects that there is no interest in being transparent and being accountable to the people he serves.

So in Dan we trust?

I am all for accountability in governments but this is a bit of a beatup . The laws have addressed the Vic Libs main concern that the CHO as an un-elected bureaucrat had the power to lock down the state. The other issue seems to be that the oversight body doesn't have the power to overrule decisions made under these emergency powers. But in times of crisis need to be able to act decisively and not be hampered by partisan politics, and quite frankly the Vic Libs with their conspiracy-theory-mongering have proved a good example of this. From what I've read it still needs to pass the upper house and Fiona Patten has raised similar issues and is going to propose amendments, so hopefully your concerns are addressed.

Regarding the release of the health advice, it really smacks of seeking more ammunition against Andrews and Sutton and i don't see why its so crucial for us to know. Are we going to hear from the other state CHO's too? What was Greg Hunt's advice from a federal level? What about national cabinet deliberations? The PM is similarly going to all lengths to keep this private despite federal FOI requests.

So my indoor soccer league starts up again tomorrow.

No masks, no ventilation, body on body contact, sweating and puffing on random strangers for an hour indoors, purely for recreation - vaccine's not required.

WTF?

But construction workers wearing masks, working outside for a living - vaccine's required.

Don't get me wrong, the sookie baby tradies absolutely should need vaccination to work, but I can't follow the logic on this inconsistency.

So you want accountability but it appears you only want it applied to the Libs?
Hopefully MB “s concerns are addressed , you have no issue with labour?
We should see all the docs both state and federal. It eoukd shed more light on just how cooperative that were at NC level.

Basketball starts next week but must be vaccinated. No jab no play. But you make a good point.

Parkrun is not able to go ahead at the moment. 100 or so people going for a timed run. The madness never ends. The 90% time period can’t come soon enough.

Why the rush through parliament? How is one supposed to read over 100 pages of law in under 24 hours. A normal bill get 2 weeks to debate.

No, I'm sceptical about why there are demands for the Victorian government to release their health advice so loudly in that particular publication, considering their tendency to beat up other issues related to Daniel Andrews. I'm all for transparency and accountability in all forms of government, but the HS has been pushing an anti-Andrews agenda since day one and I've ever seen a headline demanding accountability from the federal government despite their litany of recent offences. I'm happy for the Victorian health advice to be released so long as we see similar scrutiny from equivalent state and federal ministers decision making processes.

Could be simply because we've had the most generic state wide lockdowns, the harshest lockdowns and by far and away the highest death toll in the country. All we've had from Chairman Dan these last 18 months is Yeah, nah, *smile* off. I'm doing all this my way n no-one ( including Dan ) is ever going to know or remember what where how or why anything happened. Yet now he's insisting on handing himself even more control,

I generally agree with this. These new laws relate to the declaration of a pandemic. How many times has that happened?
They give the same power to an LNP premier as a Labor Premier
The bits I don't like are related to mandatory detention and penalties, a bit draconian for me
A lot of bleating has come from the Shadow Minister of Health Georgie Crozier and she needs to be a bit careful. Her criticism of the health response over the last few months ( " the Government has had 18 months to prepare for this") has got her offside with a large number of health workers, especially those managing the response, and smacks of either a very poor knowledge of the health system, being very poorly advised or straight our cynical politics. A Health Minister cannot operate for long without the system's support, just ask Jenny Mikakos.

My BB competition has been monitoring BbVic site...latest we have is that Vaccination is not essential.

Return to Sport Update – 26 October

Basketball Victoria has continued to advocate to Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) that indoor sport receives fair and equitable treatment compared to outdoor sport for any COVID-19 vaccination protocols or requirements.

We have recently received information from SRV that the Department of Health has confirmed that it is intended that community sport, both indoor and outdoor, is excluded from vaccination requirements if participants are attending solely for that activity.

The exclusion applies to attendees who are necessary to facilitate the community sporting activity, such as participants and volunteers

At this stage the vaccination requirement will apply to facility workers and volunteers if their jobs extend beyond community sport, plus venues where there are food or beverage facilities.

We are still seeking further information and details on the complexities regarding the specific roles that will need to demonstrate their vaccination status, plus requirements surrounding school venues or third party managed venues that have implemented a vaccination mandate.
