Beijing ‘covered up’ leak from Wuhan laboratory (paywalled)

A report by staff of a powerful US congressional committee has alleged a massive “cover up” by the Chinese Communist Party and American scientists about the origins of Sars-Cov2, arguing the virus leaked from a virology lab in Wuhan as early as September 2019, and spread globally by infecting hundreds of international athletes.

The analysis, which comes weeks before US intelligence services are expected to deliver their own report on the origins of the virus, also found “ample evidence” the Wuhan lab was pursuing controversial “gain of function” research, where viruses are artificially created or enhanced, in collaboration with American scientists.

“Researchers at the Wuhan Institute, officials within the CCP and potentially American citizens directly engaged in efforts to obfuscate information related to the origins of the virus and to suppress public debate of a possible lab leak,” the report said.

The latest salvo against the idea Covid-19, which has killed over 4.1 million people globally, emerged naturally also called for US scientist Peter Daszack, chief executive of NGO Eco-Health Alliance, which received funding from the US government, to testify before congress.

The Republican-authored report said the “preponderance of evidence” was in favour of the idea SARS-CoV-2 was accidentally released “sometime prior” to September 12, 2019.

I don't know of the science around that - would probably depend on their level of immunity.
 
A new case at Al-Taqwa College in Truganina. The same school that the virus went through like a dose of salts last year; 150 positive cases linked to the school. I hope they handle it better this time……..

from zero cases for a few hours to big concerns at this Werribee Islamic School.

Yes, hope they do the right thing, or shes off!

It seems the teacher at the first school taught for 3 days whilst maybe being infectious. Big concerns if that’s the case. Not just because of the school exposure but other open community exposure. Also, where did the teacher contract it from ? Have there been other open cases in the community that we don’t know about ?

The second school did the right thing and closed down immediately even though they don’t have any cases yet because they had been playing sport against the first school.

No wonder when I went to the supermarket yesterday morning all the toilet paper rolls were gone. Must be a lot of people out there that get advanced info on this thing. Either that or a lot of cheer squads are preparing for grand finals or something !

You will find that the AFL and the clubs are preparing for an interrupted year in 2022 . Things will change considerably. Footy will look different in 2022 . 2021 has been a huge drain on finances .

trying to be half glass full... only 4 exposure sites have been added since the announcement of this new case. 3 of them are different days at the Islamic School, plus the Yarraville Coles.

If last year, when the virus went through those communities like wildfire, is any indication we could be in quite a bit of trouble.

Should bring in the ring of steel and make it 5 reasons to leave home.

Regional Victoria needs to be exempted from the next lockdown which will most likely happen.

Threat of death and seeing people around you go to hospital will do it better than anything but not yet the way. Charts have different times scales so look around late June at daily numbers on vax chart.

especially needed for those optimising timing and personal outcomes ahead of community outcomes.

Look at that nsw daily rate surging.

We need incentives / disincentives ASAP to move those not yet vaccinated with even 1 shot past complacency and self interest.
