Coronavirus

Do you still want to argue that mass vaccination is a low priority for Australia?
While policy remains at locking down for every outbreak - sure.

I wouldn't be opposed if the government made vaccination mandatory by date X, with qualifications. But the scope of opinion on that is very broad and strongly felt in some quarters, so I can understand why they'd be reluctant to enforce it.

"I have no evidence that he did anything wrong, so I'll just cast some vague aspersions in his direction"
Well you've been quoted an instance of Fauci knowingly providing bad health advice to the American public. Do you think that was a principled thing for a doctor to do? Or even a non-doctor?

Masks - another thing I advocated early on and got poo-pooed for ITT...

Edit: 'Advocated' is the wrong word. I didn't try to tell anybody else what they should do. I just said that I was going to use them.

Feeling numb!.Deaths every day here and ppl we know ..hospitals full so if you get covit ..you just gotta ride it out at home ..no medicine not even vitamins or cough mixture ....yeah most recover yep but many still not 100 percent months after getting covit ..many loose there smell etc for a long time ..yep ppl I know .Getting Covit well it's not a fun experience and it's not Flu ..so yeah its real and doesn't play ...think many in Australia just underestimate this virus . Anyway still an curfew ,travel ban and the hardest the Alcohol ban ..

Yes, we've been sheltered. And it makes a world of difference to perspectives.

I've done my level best to avoid contracting the virus and have been tested four times, including this morning. And I'll continue to take steps to avoid it for as long as necessary. However if the country was overrun it would completely alter my approach to vaccination.

The situation you describe in Botswana in one that I want Australia to avoid rushing into.

Yeah I already responded to Lamby's assertions, you can go back and read it, but thanks for confirming you have nothing else meaningful on Fauci.

The world thanks you for pointing out that masks are important in combating the spread of the virus.

I was definitely one early who said surgical masks wouldn't be particularly helpful early on. At least not in protecting the individual.

Which was based on what we knew of how PPE works in labs and medical formats. Surgical masks are definitely not designed, and hadn't been used, to protect you from viral infection.

I guess it took a little while for advice to change, as we learned and studied more and looked at how the epidemiology unfolded. It's still true that a surgical mask isn't going to protect you, but everyone wearing them protects everyone. This also wasn't possible given supply issues early.

A lot of mistakes were made early because there isn't anyone alive who has experienced a pandemic on this scale previously.

But advice changes as things are tested, studied and measured. This is how science works.

I get it, you invested so much in ScoMo's "it's not a race" mantra that you can't back away now, even when he has. Never mind that every epidemiologist in Australia is screaming for a faster vaccination rollout.

Read this comment from Chris Hoy (AMA Vice President) that demonstrates another leadership failure on Scomo. He was discussing the lack of a National approach to quarantine, lockdowns, responses to
Corona. Scomo really has ducked all responsibilities.

Dr Moy said it was shocking Australia did not yet have a centre for disease control which would research and analyse real-time data around the world and then provide practical advice for Australian leaders.

Up to you mate but if there was a rush on AZ like there was on toilet paper and still no Pfizer you need to factor in the time until it is really effective. Three months right? I’m sure some NSW people wishing they already did it. Even if you did it early into their lockdown you wouldn’t be protected yet.

I haven’t had to face that choice as I was able to get my two Pfizer. Although I did get a tier 2 exposure on a train when I’d only been into the office three or four times in the last couple of months.

With that said it looks like the gov is going to be paternalistic in its approach so odds will remain overwhelming you wouldn’t be exposed.

Emotionally and mentally every lockdown is tough. But this one in Sydney might be the toughest yet for those with family or close friends who have contracted COVID, especially hospitalisation cases and deaths. This is the first major outbreak when you can argue that nearly every death or serious illness could have been prevented by choosing to vaccinate.

I can't imagine what it would be like to delay or dismiss vaccination for no good reason just to see family or friends die. You'd be living with the guilt for quite some time.

I started the online booking process last month to see whether I could get in for a Pfizer shot. I could.

If we were overrun like e.g. Indonesia then I’d have no problem isolating for three months. More if necessary. We already did it once, remember?

Of course the government is going to continue doing its best to protect lives. An about-face at this point would be insane. And yeah, the risk of me getting infected right now is minimal, hence I’m not vaccinated.

Love the QLD CHO message. If you hear the message don’t wait for the deadline (4pm) to lockdown. Just do it now if you can.

did my head in that my ex partner still did calisthenics with all the kids including my daughter in an inside venue in the evening when the restrictions started at midnight and had been announced in the morning. Plenty of people went for that last swill at the pub too.

it’s the whole do what is legal vs do what is the right thing and just demonstrates you can’t plead with everyone to do the right thing when it comes at (at least perceived) personal cost to them.

Another 210 in Sydney. Continuing to spread the narrative of SW Sydney and Western Sydney against everyone else. Brad Hazzard has just said 81 cases in SW Sydney and 72 in Western Sydney so that means there is nearly another 60 elsewhere in Sydney.

This rhetoric they are pushing is going to continue the spread throughout Sydney you would think.
