Coronavirus

I think you will be waiting a long time Ian . Apologetic Murdoch press is an oxymoron

what I am waiting for is Peta Cretin turning up at Gladys' press conferences
Yeah her reticence to do so is a blight on her and the organisation. Some balance would be nice but there is little chance of that happening.

Remember a couple of weeks ago people were critical of the crowd cap at the footy? 25,000 is too low. 30,000 is too low. 40,000 is too low. Wonder if they think that now? People in the footy media were critical as well. They were claiming the government was pulling crowd cap numbers out of their arses. But were they really?

If footy returns to Melbourne in a few weeks with crowds, i can't imagine too many would wanna attend after the events on the Carlton v Geelong game. people who don’t know each other test positive. crazy stuff.

Asked if this would help in NSW, Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said transmission in retail stores “hasn’t been a feature” in her state, but she wanted to see a general reduction in the mobility of people."

she contradicted herself in 1 sentence.

There was a news report a day or so ago where we were shipping something like 5m vaccines overseas, mainly to the Pacific islands, Indonesia and Thailand which I agree, we need to continue to do so. Get their most vulnerable protected (over 60's), just like we are doing.

Just heard Frydenburg on the radio, he's confident that a strong vaccine uptake will remove the need for lockdowns. Great. Now, can you ask your colleagues, where the other bloody vaccines are so that we can get protected and then remove our lockdown risk please.

And tell his useless boss that "it is a race"

They are turning test results around incredibly quickly.

The co worker my partner was exposed to yesterday (and in turn me), and was in the tier 2 cohort in the MCC on Saturday and got notified this afternoon, went for a test straight away around 3pm I think, and got the results back about 30 mins ago. Negative.
just catching up on thread.
Thats fantastic to hear they have improved so much.
Great to here the good results too for you :)

The question I want to hear at the NSW presser is something along these lines.

Your following of the health advice has lead to a lockdown with an unknown end date and triggered issues in the rest of Australia. Now you say you will only increase restrictions if you know they will work - clearly what has happened already has shown you can’t promise this or we wouldn’t be in a lockdown. Wouldn’t it be better to do what has worked elsewhere already and almost guarantee the outcome? The public can’t have faith in the health advice given it hasn’t worked so far and cost Australia billions of dollars and probably will cost many lives.

If not why do we think we can get a better outcome in NSW with the delta strain given we have failed so far?

John Barilaro's own daughter has been fined for breaching covid rules. No wonder people aren't taking it seriously in NSW, even the deputy leaders children don't know (or don't care).

My bet is NSW will announce a full scale lockdown this weekend.

As a society are we happy to just say bad luck, either stay locked away in a little bubble or risk death?
As a nation we are obviously happy to say that to Indonesia and other struggling nations who cannot get access to vaccines. Most decry our government for not having more vaccines. Given the relative small risk from covid we have here in Australia shouldn't we be a long last on the world vaccination program list?

Indonesian lives < Australian lives

Should be an ethical dilemma and it should have been debated and discussed but clearly not an issue. #whereareallthesocialists?

My concern in Victoria is we got on top of Delta last time but there are no guarantees we can do it again this lockdown.
Even if we do it's only a matter of time before it spills over from NSW again with Glady's attitude.
Then what?

We are along way from opening up for those who have been vaccinated, for a few reasons.
First is obviously so many haven't had the chance to be vaccinated.
Second is that rates are so low that anyone assisting the spread of the disease is risking serious harm to the wider community, so while someone vaccinated mightn't have serious effects, they can still assist with the spread of the disease posing risks to others.
Thirdly, part of the success of lockdowns is that no-one can move around, meaning it is easier to police. If say 5% of the population had more freedom that is 150k people roaming Melbourne. How would anyone who shouldn't be be noticed?
Fourthly where would you go? Nowhere is open!
and Fifth, even once the population is well covered with vaccine, a decision needs to be made about how to protect those who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons, who would be at a higher risk of serious complications. As a society are we happy to just say bad luck, either stay locked away in a little bubble or risk death?

Agree with most of this, yes, we have a long way to go before everyone has the opportunity to be vaccinated. This simply should not be the case but it is.

Freedom of movement and the ability to visit shops and the like has to happen eventually.

This is why we only open up once everyone has had the opportunity to be vaccinated.

I will add that we can't really be waiting for some to make up their minds or be held back by those who simply refuse.

How to protect those who can't have the vaccine is always a thorny problem. On the whole Australians are pretty good at getting vaccinated, but maybe we would have to set a minimum percentage to open up so that we protect those who have no choice and cannot get vaccinated.

Don't forget we live in this little nirvana state called Tigerland,

I only ask, because my daughter who was born in December 2019 has never known a world where Richmond aren't premiers.

I don't want that to change

My youngest is moving out and so im looking to adopt a kid born 31 Sept 2017 if anyone has a spare.
